At Moots, our welds have been admired for decades. They’ve been called a “stack of dimes” and even mistaken for the work of robots. But there are no robots in Steamboat Springs—just skilled craftspeople who demand nothing less than perfection in every frame.
Those flawless beads are our calling card, but the real story goes deeper. What makes a Moots frame truly world-class is the precision that happens before a single weld is ever laid. Every tube is mitred to fit seamlessly with the next, leaving zero gaps and requiring no filler. This hidden craftsmanship creates strength, efficiency, and longevity you can feel in every ride.
Not All Titanium is Created Equally
The foundation for every Moots frame begins with a commitment to quality materials. Titanium may be available from dozens of sources worldwide, but we source almost exclusively from two trusted mills in the United States and Reynolds in the United Kingdom. These aerospace-grade tubes are certified to extremely strict tolerances—because if titanium isn’t straight, round, and consistent, you don’t end up with a bike, you end up with a banana. It’s more expensive, but it’s the right way to do things, and we’re unwilling to compromise.
Highly Experienced Welders
Moots relies on expert craftspeople to bring it all together. The welding team consists of specialists with decades of experience working exclusively with titanium. This specialization, combined with an ongoing commitment to refining their techniques, is what allows them to achieve a consistently high standard of quality.
That kind of precision doesn’t happen by accident—it comes from the hands of our welders, like Kelsey, Caleb, and Luke, who collectively bring more than 40 years of experience to the bench. Their patience, artistry, and dedication ensure every frame leaves the factory worthy of the Moots name.
Craftsmanship: Handmade Perfection
It takes between twelve and fourteen hours for the artisans at Moots to turn a stack of raw titanium tubes into a finished frame. The process is notoriously difficult, and few in the industry hold themselves to the same standard. Famous for their welds and exacting tolerances, Moots uses a double-pass weld: the tubes are first melted together without filler, then finished with welding wire. It doubles the time required, but it’s critical for strength, alignment, and that flawless “stack of dimes” look Moots is known for.
When a Moots frame comes out of the box, it should be flawless—or as flawless as something handmade can be. The headset presses in perfectly, the bottom bracket threads seamlessly, and the wheels sit square and true. That pursuit of consistency and perfection by hand is our hallmark, and it’s rare to find in today’s bike industry.
It’s true, our welds are beautiful. But what sets Moots apart is everything you don’t see. The unseen precision, the flawless miters, the aerospace-grade materials, and the relentless pursuit of perfection—that’s what gives every Moots its strength, character, and timeless ride quality.
