Caring for Your Moots Finish

Caring for Your Moots Finish

We’re often asked how to best wash and care for the finish on a Moots. It’s a fair question, because every frame that leaves our factory represents an enormous amount of craft, intention, and pride. With a little regular care, your Moots can continue to look as good as it rides for years to come.

Below are our recommended best practices for keeping your finish clean, protected, and ready for the next ride.

Start Where the Riding Ends

After long summer days on dirt, gravel, and everything in between, your bike will naturally show it. Dust, mud, sweat, and road grit build up quickly, and while it’s tempting to just relube the chain and keep rolling, a proper wash goes a long way. This is your pride and joy, worth a few extra minutes of care.

Wash

You can place your bike in a stand or simply lean it against a wall. Using a standard garden hose with a spray nozzle, rinse from the top down, saddle, cockpit, frame, brakes, wheels, and tires.

Fill a bucket with water and a small amount of mild dish soap, agitating it until suds form. Using brushes or sponges, clean the bike from the top down again, working methodically across all surfaces. Don’t rush. Let the soap sit for a few minutes once you’re finished scrubbing. Then rinse thoroughly with clean water.

Wipe

While the bike is still wet, use a clean cotton cloth or old t-shirt to wipe down the frame and components. This helps remove any remaining grime and prevents water spots as the bike dries.

Protect the Finish

To restore luster and add a light protective layer, apply a small amount of lemon-scented furniture polish to a damp cloth and wipe down the main frame tubes, fork legs, seatpost, and stem. Avoid disc rotors, brake surfaces, and the saddle.

This step helps bring back that fresh, factory look and makes future cleaning easier.

Lube

Once the bike is clean and dry, re-lube the chain with a quality lubricant suited to your riding conditions. A clean drivetrain not only looks better, it performs better and lasts longer.

Ride, Repeat

Regular care keeps your Moots looking sharp, but more importantly, it ensures your bike is always ready for the next adventure. And when someone asks if it’s new, you’ll know the real answer. It’s simply well cared for.

A Note on Wear

Over time, every bike earns marks from bags, cables, and miles well ridden. These signs of use are part of the story. The good news is that titanium doesn’t rust, and those marks are reminders of the roads, trails, and experiences that broughtthem there.
