Has worked at Moots and in Steamboat since 1996…spent his younger years in Rhode Island and then Oregon…moved to Steamboat for Moots…telemark and skate skier…first bike was Schwinn 5-speed Sting Ray…current bicycles include a custom Vamoots RSL and a MX Divide with a few more frames hanging around that he built in his younger years…numerous favorite rides – Emerald single track for an after work mountain bike ride; road – the coal mine/Oak Creek/Stagecoach loop; dirt road ride – the Ranch Rally route…when not riding in Steamboat some of Butch’s favorite rides are Spring and Fall riding in the desert, the county roads of Sonoma, CA, and touring through France…dream cycling trip would be three weeks in Tuscany riding every day and eating great food, then onto the Dolomites finishing up in the Alps…after a ride it’s a good cold beer (beer is food isn’t it?) and any good food…when not on his bike, Butch is working or eating (sometimes simultaneously)…a cyclist he admires – Peter Sagan…a fellow named Gary in Oregon got him into cycling. Within two years Butch saved up and bought a Bruce Gordon frame (from Bruce) and that changed his perspective of what a bike can and should be, handbuilt by someone with pride and skill. After that all he wanted to do was build frames.
