   Hello All,
   I was wondering if anyone could help me with a tire choice for my YBB. If I go by mtbr.com it seems like people don't like any of the 29er tires. What does the Moots community prefer? My bike is an 09, so I don't think I can run anything larger than 2.1 in the back. Thanks for your advice. Hope everyone is enjoying their summer.

   Last year I used Bontrager 29-3 TLR, which was a fast rear tire, but didn't last long.
   This year I've been running the Hutchinson Python 2.1 TLR and like it. It is holding up better than the Bontrager.

   All mountain type riding or are you looking to keep the weight down and maybe race some?

   Lightweight:

   Front: Racing Ralph or Maxis Ikon

   Rear: Maxis Aspen

   Now I am rock'in (for me :))my RSL :).....

   If you're looking for something with bigger volume/knobs, I've been running Panaracer Rampages. Not UST though if you're looking for that.

   I have a 2010 YBB with similar clearance requirements, I suspect. I ran Bonty XDXs for a long time...they are a fast, high volume 2.1 that I couldn't burp, but they wore down fast, like the tiny 29-3 does. My new go-to tire is the Maxxis Ikon. The sidewalls are beefy, and the volume is pretty darn good. They are fast w/ just enough bite for me. I think they sell it as a 2.2, but it isn't any wider than my 2.1 XDXs and I have no clearance problems with it.

   The Slant 6 looks good, but a sidewall comparison sold me on the Ikon.

   Check Tree Fort Bikes for good pricing on them.

   Hey, thanks for the info. I am looking for an all purpose tire. I don't plan on doing any racing, and I am looking to keep it UST. K29er, we do have the same clearance requirments. The Champions by Specialized have been recommended to me, but I've read about a lot of sidewall problems with them. Thanks again.

   I'd probably recommend against Specialized tires. While I'm running them with no issues right now (Fast Trax) as they are what came with my 29'er (unfortunately, NOT a Moots), in the past when I've run them, I've had a LOT of issues with the knobs tearing off. That is a similar issue that a lot of the guys I ride with have experienced, as the group I ride with have a lot of Specialized bikes. (I rode with the group last night and there were 2 Fishers, 1 Trek, 1 Ellsworth, 1 Scott and 6 Specialized).

   Hi Robk

   Schwalbe make great tires - you can't go wrong in their 29er variants - depending on need. RR or NN's.

   As a light weight race tire I've also had success with Kenda Karmas. My Mooto-x currently has 1.9 karmas set up tubeless and they are great/fast. They wont like rocky and rough country as they are very thin in the sidewalls but if you are smooth and the terrain is gentle - they rock!
