I have a few rides in on my MX YBB and had a couple of questions about the YBB. I saw that scoring is normal, but how about the black "gunk?" It looks like a thicker grease and it cleans right up, but what is it? How do you replace the grease?

Mine did the same thing for a while.
I think Moots loads it up with a lot of grease and it leaks out over the first few rides, but it will stop. I just put a few drops of Tri-Flow on the slider every 3 or 4 rides and I always wipe it clean after my rides. Don't know if you need to do this, but I figure it can't hurt.
Glad to hear you got that baby running.

The scoring is normal. Not sure that you need to....but I use a bit of grease on the slider prior to every ride. Makes me feel better.
Gents,
The "gunk" coming out of the Ybb when the frame is new or close to new is normal. We pack the unit with Finish Line grease here at the Mother ship. During the first couple of weeks of riding you will get the extra grease coming out of the Ybb...this is normal. Wipe the slider clean and continue to ride. Like Woody states above, a drop or two of Tri-Flow will keep the slider running smooth from there on...
Scoring is normal wear on the slider itself......
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks,
Jon@Moots
All-
Thanks for the info. I figured that it was factory grease and just needed a few rides to work its way out. I'm adding a few drops of teflon lube pre-ride, so hopefully that will keep it running smooth.
Really enjoying the bike so far. I'll be posting a few thoughts/review after a few more rides.
