Trying to figure out the build for my Mooto X RSL. Lookin' at a few options and am considering the Open Trail Stem. This will be an all out xc and enduro build and I want a stiff cockpit. Always been a Thomson guy. Anybody running an Open Trail stem and can speak to stiffness? I'd love the durability and damping but don't want to lose snapiness. Thanks.

I've run various Moots stems as well Thomson and never noticed any difference between them, the Moots are great, considering one for my Mooto X RSL but because of aesthetics will probably go for ENVE. Although this is just because I want a certain look for the bike and the Moots won't give me what I want.

MemberI think Moots is trying to appeal to the larger market here by stating that most bars people will be running, aluminum or carbon, work with the Ti stem. The last thing they want to do is scare anybody away. There aren't many people riding Ti bars so I'm guessing they don't waste text addressing that small group in the stem description. Jon C. can verify but I'm sure the Ti bar and stem combo is fine. I've seen it on a few Moots (including one old school Rigormoots with the Ti riser bars). You can buy a Moots bar with a shim to get to 31.8. If you're interested in 31.8 bars, express your interest to the guys at Moots and let them know there's interest.

The Open Trail Stem works perfectly with our Ti bar & the 31.8 shim. The stem extension is built with oversized (1 3/8'') tubing providing a very stout feel. We do sell a good amount of our ti bars....the durability and feel rank high with many users.

At one time we did build a Ti Beam mountain stem that way 25.4, as well as an Open Road in 26.0 for road bars. Times changed and the demand was very low so we stopped production of those items.The world of 31.8 stems is here for better or worse. Thanks a ton for supporting us and buying the Open Road...I'm certain you will love the performance.
