Clincher Wheels for a Commuter PX?

Want to get a set of clincher wheels built for my PX which I'm now using for commuting. I've been using my tubulars but need something more practical in case (when...) I get a flat.

For the tire, I'm looking for something with a tread that's good on asphalt and light trail riding, basically a 'go anywhere' (almost) tread without being an outright cross tread, would also be nice if it has a robust casing to resist cuts.

For the rims, I'd like to use a spare set of Campy record hubs (36 hole) I have in my parts box to build the wheels so rims also gotta have 36 holes. Wheels have to be robust to take some abuse, I'm thinking 36/3X/14 front & back. I've been eyeballing DT Swiss TK540 rims but they are on the heavy side.

I'm commuting on a pair of Mavic Open Pros laced to White Industries hubs. I've found that Kenda Small Block 8's wear like iron and are solid unless things get really nasty. I think it's the best balance of limited rolling resistence and bite tire-wise. I figure if the Reflex version is good enough for Jon C. at Nats, the clinchers are good enough for my commute.

I was thinking of maybe going with Vittoria Pave's, I used their tubular version (27mm) and it's a good tire (even if it has those gay looking green striped treads...).

Mavic does make a good rim, I remember running a set of GP4 years ago on a Bianchi and beat the hell outta them and they stayed true (guess that says a lot about the wheel builder too).

Those white hubs are nice... check out PMP hubs, those are sweet too. If I didn't already have a set of Record hubs still in their boxes lying around I'd give them a try, and the new Chris King R45 hubs look tempting too. I'm glad to see they finally made a Campy compatible hub.

White Industries just released a rear disc hub with 130mm spacing so anybody with an old Psychlo X that has Moots throw some disc tabs on can run disc hubs. Looks like the market is moving toward 135mm for disc equipped 'Cross bikes but good to know the guys at White have me covered.
