Jon,
Can rack eyelets (upper & lower) be retrofitted to an existing frame?
I'm using the PX for commuting and would like to mount a rear rack to the bike.
Can this be done and what are the cost involved (will also need a Moots frame shipping container).

You said a RACK on a Moots Crosser? You are turning the single coolest bike on the planet into a fred mobile? Get a courier bag.
If that's not enough, get another bike.

I totally agree - the Moots crosser is a great, great commuter - but no racks. Anything but a rack. IMO, if you need more than a messenger bag to commute, get a commuter.
Don't turn a stallion into a mule - get a mule.
Mr Moots makes mules....they're called the CoMooter or the LT. (or a Bruce Gordon BLT).

Not sure what you are wanting to carry, but ever thought about a custom frame bag?

Carousel Design Works - has been getting some bad press, but makes great bags.
Revelate Designs - I don't think Eric make's custom frame bags anymore, but makes high quality "off-the-rack" bags and accessories.
I had Jeremy at Cleaveland Mountaineering make mine and it is very nice.
Give it a looksee and maybe go that route.
These are all small shops.

Rack eyelets can be added for sure. There is a charge similar to sending a bike in for a disc mount add-on...runs $ 475.00 and includes a full re-furbish/decals.
Here's how I would do a rack on that rig.....I would have the upper eyelets added and run an Old Man Mountain rack. These guys know how to make 'em...the Sherpa model relies on a skewer/mount at the axle that has been proven to handling everything from road tours to off-road hammering....it also works great on our Ybb model as the entire rack moves with the suspension.

Those racks sounds like a good alternative, but at $237.50 each - those are expensive eyelets. I am a huge believer in specific bikes for specific duties (or cameras, guitars, shoes, golf clubs - I mean, ANYTHING, right?). A cross bike is perfect for 90% of what most anyone does on a bike - commuting included. But to put a rack on a Moots crosser - such a beautiful piece of engineering perfection is (to me) a crime. Any more than I would put aero bars on one.
There are plenty of reliable, relatively inexpensive light duty 'touring' or commuting bikes available at not much more than the cost of the eyelets and rack. To me, the spot on solution.

Gotta agree with 29ner, adding rack eyelets would be a bit steep. I guess I'll just stick with my laptop backpack for now. Maybe a few years down the road when she's in need of a refinish I'll have them installed and kill two birds with one stone.

You can also go the route of the Old Man Mountain rack that mounts under/on top of the canti studs and uses the axle mount skewer....
Can't recall the model name but it would be worth a look.
