Cough it up Jon. What is the story on your tires at the Nats? You mentioned you were "off" What were you runnin and why? What should you have been runnin and what pressure? Don't feel too bad. I think like wax in XC skiing that wax and tires/pressurein CX are a very elusive topic. Too much or too little and you suck. Oh well train and race a whole year and a couple psi totally make or break your race. That is CX. Enlighten us poor mortals. You are my idol big Jon. Mr. Mootzilla

Working on that one. Will post soon.cat3roadracer....no clinchers on race day, but I train on them always. Best I have found are from Challenge...the Grifo, and my new found fav the XS file tread....you can run them at really low pressures(28-25 psi) depending on your weight and how your ride......and with a latex tube they feel pretty darn nice.

MemberWow Jon, That is a sad story. The tires are an easy miss , I am a total sucker for the Grifos. They are either spot on or totally off. The Dugasts Rhino is probably the gold standard cross tire, but if the course is frozen hard you may shred one. Would like to see your backup bike.I always have a set of Tufos setup for when the course is really ugly. They aren't as nice of ride as others but probably 200% tougher.
I have bounced chains off SS, 10 speed single cog rigs and doubles. The old Campy two ring guards with the chain in the middle is the only rig I never bounced a chain off. But those were the 6-7 speed days and didn't take much to cross chain issues.
You are my hero for having a positive attitude about a tough loss. Those Stars and Stripes are pretty hard to come by unless your name is Ned, Tilley, or Paul C. The really bad news is when you get 60 like me the same guys that beat you at 25 still beat you at 55. Life is hard, Great job riding for the brand. Keep up the great stories and tech updates. Greg

MemberI'm definitely a brooder and I tend to stew over my race mistakes. I've spoken with Jon in person a few times and am thoroughly convinced he's one of the most genuine and positive guys in the game. I'll add my voice to the chorus here Jon with some hearty congrats and thanks for your eternal optimism and ability to take the highest road out of tough situations. Well played Cariveau. We'll be pullin' for you next year as well.
