I've seen it suggested that putting a lizard skin on the YBB shock is a good idea - any confirmations or alternate suggestions? How is lizard skin sized any way?

I have never uased anything on the slider, and never had any problems or need to do so.
If you're riding in a lot of sandy or muddy terrain it might not be a bad idea, but like SBS said, it isn't necessary.
When I had my YBB, I got a jumbo chainstay Lizard Skin and cut it to fit. The other option you could try is to cut a section of CX sized tube (35mm) and put it on. You could either cut it and secure it with zip ties or you could undo the "shock" and slide the tube on and bolt it back up. To clean you could just roll it up on the wishbone like a condom.
Thanks for the feedback - even the sex education part! :)
I realize it's not required, but it definitely gets gritty back there when I'm riding off road. That can't be helping the longevity.
In the years that we have been riding YBB's it has never been an issue. They will score some and when it gets to the point that it bugs you, get the rebuild kit and voila...like new. I do mine every couple of years, usually our of sheer boredom in the middle of winter.
I have used the Lizard Skin shock boot on my original 1999 26" now my Mooto X with excellent results.
The YBB stays clean and dry with no scoring. I occasionally remove the Lizard Skin during a bike wash and relube the YBB.
Cut the Lizard Skin to length.
I would recommend it for prolonging the YBB.
