What chainring/cog/chain combo are you using?

I've been running a Boone Ti Ring, PC830 and a Surly Cog. I get quite a few loud pops per ride. Not sure exactly what causes it...I assume it is some sort of chain engagement issue. I don't really feel it, but it sounds like it can't be good. It happens when the chain is loose or tight.

This is on a MootoX-YBB w/ m960 cranks. On a side note, the Boone teeth are further to one side of the chainring. With the bling side out, it nearly hit the chainstay and likely would have under flex. Hence, I am running it dull side out, and it clears sufficiently. Someday someone is going to get a good deal on this chainring.

I have a new symmetric Ti chainring being made by HBC. Also have a King cog on the way and a PC-7 1/8" chain, thinking that a little extra tolerance might keep it from popping. I hear they are noisy on the 3/32 components. We'll see.

32 Salsa front , King 18 rear with a Sram PC-1 chain.. Ran the same combo with an XTR reg 32 ring up front as well for years.. no issues..

Just in case you have not, check your chain line..

Cool. Chainline is good. Wondering about flex and the YBB causing small shifts in chainstay length. Or perhaps a new chain and rings will straighten things out. We'll see.

I read not great things about PC-1, which is why I went PC-7. I suspect it may be all about how you maintain it.

    Thanks!

I'm running a surly chainring (also have had good luck with Salsa and Spot rings) and King Stainless rear cogs. SRAM 850 /870 chains. No pops, clicks or issues.

I also have a couple Ti boone cogs that will pop and click when used with 1/8" chains. The wider chain allows for more float even on a tighter chain tension, and I've had it pop off of a tooth under load (ie while climbing)

I wasn't using a Boone chainring but I did have a Boone cog that gave me fits. Perfect chainline and the chain would pop off on every ride. Swapped to a King cog and the problem went away, I have since gotten a few Homebrewed cogs and they are also working fine.

Interesting, thanks for the feedback. I have some CK cogs on hand now, and I also have a newish Blackspire ring. Perhaps I'll give them a go w/ an 8sp chain and see how it performs.
