Who is CX racing this fall?

Our little local free CX race series is underway here in the Black Hills. One of the shops (Acme Bicycles) picks out 3 local parks, flags/tapes/marks the course and we have races at 3 pm on Saturday and then 10 am on Sunday. Everyone helps tear down the course markings when it is over (helping keep it free) and it is SUPER fun! So, 6 races over the course of 3 weekends.

The turnout so far has been GREAT (for here anyhow) with more than 30 people racing in each race with racers from the very serious to kids doing their first CX race.

My races have been WAY better this year. Last year, if I only got lapped by the fastest guys I was happy. This year, I've got 3rd in one race and I got 4th yesterday (in the "B" class...I'd probably still be DFL in the "A" class, but at least I'm not getting lapped *^) ).

Anyhow, who's putting their Psychlos (or other CX bikes like me) through the paces this year?

12 races under my belt this fall. The PA scene is pretty good: MAC races can draw 80-100 riders, PACX 30-40. We had a Masters B class last year which was Cats 2/3/4 35+, and I could hang middle of the pack for those. This year, we have only Masters Elite which is Cats 1/2/3/4 35+. Getting my tail handed to me weekly, but getting faster and having a blast. The Cat 1's are unbelievable.

I am blessed to have 2 PXs in my stable-2010 for my A bike and 2008 for my B bike. The B bike is as good as sold, and I hope to be racing a PX RSL as my A bike next year! I am addicted to cyclocross.

We had two races again this weekend, with a foot of snow falling before the Saturday race went down. Marking the course was really easy as they just took a quad with a blade on the front and drove around the course. They made some barriers out of snow, but they only made it one lap as everyone just rolled through them.

Race time (3pm) on Saturday saw temps hovering anywhere from 10-15 degrees, depending on who's Garmin said what. Sunday's race (10am) was quite a bit "nicer" with a 25 degree race temp. Fun, fun stuff. We were like a bunch of kids out there playing in the snow.

Two weeks from now we're setting up the "SD State Championships" (self-appointed, non-sanctioned) so there will be one more weekend of racing. Should be a good time!

Sounds like some pretty tough conditions! Raced in a Noreaster in the end of October, but that was a comfortable 37degrees. I can't imagine what a 10 degree start is like, but I am assuming not a lot of bare legged racers lining up for those. How did you make out in the State Championship?

Had our official/non-official SD State Championships yesterday. There was a few inches of snow on the ground, but the temps were hovering in the low 40's at the start, so it was a nice day with the ground getting muddy in a few spots. I was rolling pretty well on the first lap, sitting in 3 or 4th going in to the first barrier section. Long story short, there was a lot of snow in that section and I tripped up and went down, getting passed by about 8 guys. Spent the rest of the race picking off 4 or so of them, but couldn't get back into the top 5. Still a great race and a good time.
