So there is an individual who wants to know why putting a suspension fork on his cross bike is bad. I gave him my reasons which amounted to bad geometry. Anybody have anything else they would like to add. This is a PsychloX. Thanks

It will mess up the geometry, aesthetically it is wrong, the frame may not be able to take the additional loads created by the fork, hardly anyone builds forks with canti-post mounts anymore, so unless it is a disc frame, the "individual" will have to use a disc in the front and a canti in the back, which adds a new wheel (or at least a hub and wheel build) into the equation.
My question is why? Why does this person want to do this? Personally, it bugs me when people get a SWEET ride like a Psychlo and then put flat bars on it or bastardize it in some way. (Again, I want to reiterate it is a personal problem.)
Not long ago there was a Moots Smoothie for sale on eBay and it was going cheap. I thought I'd check it out for my wife. When I opened the ad, I found this bike with a high-rise stem, HUGE comfort bike style riser bars, bar ends that pointed to the sky, a giant comfort bike saddle and a post mounted bike rack. AAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHH. Why? Why just not get a comfort bike? Why buy a Corvette ZO1 and festoon it with a roof rack and snow and ice tires? Why not get the right tool for the job? So, if this individual wants more comfort, why not get a mountain bike (with bigger, lower pressure tires and a suspension fork) or a comfort bike?
Sorry for the rant. Hopefully this will help persuade this individual.
"Having suspension fork on road bikes will not be able to take the additional loads created by the fork"
I have a Smoothie that I no longer ride that I would consider selling if you're still interested. 18" full ti. The stock 5th element shock was replaced with a Fox RP3 from PUSH. Currently set-up as a 69er with a White Brothers rigid fork, but i have a PUSH'd Fox Float if wanted. Haven't been actively looking to sell, but it is SUCH a waste to have such a beautiful bike not being ridden. I have converted to 29" wheels for MTB. pics easily available upon request. Currently set-up with a really nice 1x9 set-up.
Not a good idea all around....bad geometry, messing up a perfect bike....the cross gods would roll in their graves.
Thanks,
