Anyone ever use tactical lights for bicycle lighting? Was told about a Fenix LD20 with a Fenix AF02 mount. It looked interesting. Especially the mount. Of course that opened up a whole other whack of choices, eagletac, and surefire seem to be the most popular with Fenix. Thanks in advance for your feedback

A friend of mine used a light like that (Eagletac I think, but not 100%) on a night ride. Beam was plenty bright, but not nearly big enough area of coverage to make a decent bike light. The thing about the "bike" specific ones is that they have a decent width (flood) and a nice bright center (spot).

Member... this may not be what your looking for, but I tried a huge range of lights, (up to 1500 lumen!). As was mentioned, I struggled with the beam pattern, battery life, mounting and weight.
In then end I got 2 of these in a kit locally and they're the best I've used:
http://www.ayup-lights.com/Super light weight, I have a narrow beam on the helmet and a wide beam on the handlebars. They're only rated at 400 lumen each, but I reckon theres alot more to it than just the "lumen" rating.

These are not cheap, but are worth every penny!
Use it on the road, in the woods, etc. Bullet proof, light, no battery back, holds a super long charge and Very Bright! When I ride on the road, I often get the high beam flick from cars b/c it is so bright.

MemberExie - I have heard good things about the ay-up lights.
I'm running a Lupine Wilma 5 (1100 Lumens) on the bars and a Lupine Piko on the helmet. Great lights, but like ECR said about Exposure's, the Lupines are not cheap either.
A great inexpensive light is MagicShine by geoman. He had some battery problems and pulled them off till they got it squared away and I see they are selling them again. For the price I don't think you can beat the price - not sure about the quality...
MTBR has a light shootout every year and he does a good job on evaluating a large selection of different lights.

I have the Enduro MaXx which is an earlier version of the MaXx-D, but spec wise more like the new Toro Mk.2. Very easy handle bar mount (so easy to move between bikes if needed). Absolutely amazing light, and again no battery pack and holds a great charge. I can literally light the way for multiple riders on the road. Check out the links below-can't go wrong with either one.

MemberECR brings up a good point about being flicked by on-coming traffic because his light is so bright.
Is there a point where the there's too much output? Don't get me wrong, I want to see that pothole, rock, broken glass, skunk, etc... but I also don't want to get into a 'high-beam war'.
I'm no expert but I'm guessing something designed with a controlled horizontal pattern with a far range cutoff. Obviously this would only apply to rigid mounted lights and not helmet mounts.

900 lumens in a small helmet mounted light with no external battery packs or cables.
Awesome light.
I use the helmet mount(very simple and effective) on my MTB and the bar mount on my roadie.
I use it as much off the bike(as a torch) as I do on it too.
It does have a short battery life on high(1 hr) but if you switch between settings for technical MTB sections it lasts for more than a couple of hours.
