I have owned a few Psychlo-X in my day, and the first meeting of 2001 vs 2009 went as well as can be expected:

Changes: YBB vs. non-YBB, 1" headtube vs. 1 1/8" headtube.
Similarities: 2001 IF steel fork and Ksyrium SL wheels; 2008 IF steel fork and Ksyrium SL wheels (soon to change).

I will compare the tube thicknesses and clearances.

    XJahX,

You go through frames faster than I go through Water Bottles.

I hope you find the Moots you can't ever let go, I found mine.

Funny, my water bottles seem to last forever.

That there powder coated Psychlo-X ybb shall remain in my stable for as long as I can ride.

Beautiful bikes, xjahx! I could see a Psychlo-X RSL in your future...

I too see a Psychlo-X RSL and possibly a Mootour in the near future (spring). What I do not know, however, is if a fully loaded Mootour would do better than a loaded Psychlo-X with rack/fender mounts. I appreciate the differences in the geometry, but all of my touring thus far has been on hard packed dirt roads on cyclocross-based bikes.

I would imagine a Mootour with extended chainstays might be the better choice for loaded touring, especially if you're gonna mount rear panniers. Add a Rohloff, a Schmidt front hub, throw on some B&M lights and you're good to go.

The real disadvantage of a Mootour is as built it has no clearance for normal touring sized tires (32 and above) with fenders. You must also get the extended chainstay option as mentioned above (45) to ensure rear panniers clearance. The Mootour has a lower BB effectively lowering your weight placement. Fact of the matter there is the majority of your weight is above the seat (you). PX gives better clearance because of higher bottom bracket. Geometry is a little different. You should get couplers if your planning a travel bike as they will save you large dollars on airline baggage fees.

FM, I have a few coupled frames already.

Any idea of Moots will make more of an IF Independence model out of their Mootour if you pay for custom? My Independence has room for 2.1" 29er tires, coupled, sliders, rack/fender mounts. It is ridiculously versatile.

They absolutely will. It may have the Psychlo rear triangle on it though as opposed to the road bike wishbone for tire clearance. At that time you're probably equivalently getting a custom PX with a lower bottom bracket. Suggest giving them the tire / rim / fender configuration and see what they say.

    Hmmm...perhaps a Psychlo-X with a Mooto-X rear end for a true monster cross frame.

    xjahx,
On the old forum someone had one built like that (I think). I don't remember who it was, but I think he called it "Mootszilla" and he had photos of it. Looked pretty wild as I recall..
