Hello,

I am trying to run my Moots Mooto X 29er 2x10....I tried the 2011 XTR 2x10 cranks but they won't work.

NOTE: 2X10 XTR won't work on Moots Mooto X older prior to 2011 model.

Moots team recommend I run 2x10 SRAM XO with 38T outer ring but I am thinking I want more chainring flexibility.

Is anyone running Middleburn RS7 cranks on a Moots Mooto X 29er? or Rotor 3D cranks? Or anything else which may give me good clearance and chainline? If so, please advice.

Could convert a tripple into a double but not sure about chainline.

Interesting....

I have a pre 2010 mooto-x 29 er (size 20") with Paragon Sliders and was hoping to install 2011 xtr 2x10 using the 26/38 crank set.

Wondering if JonC can confirm that this combo absolutely will not work? My LBS seems to think otherwise but they haven't actually tried yet.

You can certainly run a triple with an empty position. I ran XTR 970 for quite some time. Ran the 22 on the inside and a 34 in the middle position. On a 29er you are going to be really flying to spin out a 34/11.

Now I am rock'in (for me :))my RSL :).....

All,

Any Mooto X or Mooto X Ybb pre-October 2010 will not accept the Shimano 2 x 10 cranks. Starting in October we started building with a different chainstay set-up.

Sram will work with the 26/39 tooth combo.

Running a 2 x 10 system will limit your chainring options either way....but like gearguywb said....if you spin out a 38 x 11 on a 29er you are really flying....

Would have been nice if I had seen this post BEFORE I placed my order for a 2x10 XTR group for my brand new, but pre-2010 change Mooto-X YBB. Now I get the real honor of deciding which bike shop to be a pain to: the shop I got the bike from or my lbs where I ordered the parts. Or do I just sell, at a loss I am sure, the unopened, new group and start over? Awesome set of choices!! Very disappointing to say the least...and I even asked about this here and in emails!

I ran on my 09 Mooto X Slider with 38-26 2 x 10 XTR... Heres the kicker you have to use a Shimano Saint Bottom Bracket. The Saint has deeper cups wich will allow you to put all 3 spacers on the drive side.. I have run and raced with with no issues..

We cannot guarantee that older Moots frames will be comptable with changing specs of components. Each and every one of our frames is built to the highest standards possible, as components change we do our best to change with them as quickly as possible. I believe I was pretty clear above in stating that in October of 2010 we made a change to the Mooto X Ybb stays to accmodate the new Shimano 2 x 10 drive.

I appreciate that Moots can't possibly ensure that older frames accept all new components. However, the frame that I purchased is not "older" at all. I purchased the frame brand new and at full price 2 weeks ago. I had no advance warning that Moots made changes to the frame in 2010- it certainly is not part of the information provided in the product description. Secondly, I specifically asked you both here and in a personal email whether there were any concerns in using XTR 2x10 with my MX YBB. On your assurances and recommendations, I purchased the components. So, while you were clear with another Moots owner, I think it is also clear that I did not receive accurate information.

I sent you an email yesterday regarding this issue. Rather than flood an otherwise great forum with my grievances, I'll take you up on the offer to call you in the office. I really hope that we can work through this without losing a bunch of money.
