Hey Folks,
This may not be appropriate to share here, but my local MTB mag had a great article about riding in Moab. So I thought I'd share it here:

I know Team Fubar is fond of this area, and no doubt others are too, looks like a great place! All I need is a pay rise and some time off! haha!
There is great riding there, but be warned, there is little to no singletrack. Mostly 2 track and Jeep roads.
I think the real draw for me there is on days like today when the high is supposed to be 6 degrees (F) and there is ice and snow everywhere, we head to the desert of Utah and ride bikes in the sunshine.

I was in Moab over the weekend - it was 6 degrees in the mornings and maybe 30 by afternoon. I had all my layers on - it wasn't for sissies. But as always, a wicked weekend. There's snow on the ground, coupled with the red rock it doesn't get much better.
Went out by Klondike bluffs, into Arches, and sand flats road. Best of all, it was quiet and no people.
Fubar, one of the beauties is that there's little single track, everywhere I go there's singletrack. Moab is a nice contrast.
Exie, Sell some stuff, work overtime, skip meals, and quit your job or whatever you have to do. If you love to mountain bike you need to check out Moab - I dare say its mecca.

Damn, that is cold, I'm not really an eskimo-type myself, I'd be more suited as a Jamacian! I guess it is winter over there. In contrast we've got a daily average of 28c here.
I've got plenty of holidays owing (~9 weeks) my problem is getting away from my employer! The money isnt really that hard, I just have to stop buying new bike bling!
I might wait until the seasons change and see what we can do later in the year.
A few things for you if, nah, when you do come. Late April, early May is a PERFECT time for Moab. You're usually out of the snowy months, the temps are usually nice, but not too hot. At the other end of the season, late Sept. and early October are the same way.
Flatfender-have you ridden Gemini Bridges/Gold Bar/Portal? Man, that is an epic, awesome ride! We had a crew of about 16 or so when we did it last spring and it was stellar. The weather sucked, but made the experience all the more excellent. We had sleet falling so hard, it was running (rolling?) off of the rocks like water, the wind was so strong for a while, we had to eat lunch in a cave, and we had guys freakin' out so much about being on the Portal that their legs literally locked up.

Yep Moab is a special place. I was out there the same weekend as TF, but never got together and the weather was like I have never seen before in Moab. We had sleet/snow in camp one morning, but cleared up enough to get a ride in.
This year all the guys I go with have decided to go mid-May for better weather, which means HOT to me, but maybe "The Whole Enchilada" will be open. It will be our 22nd year going to Moab in the spring.

I have been on the Gemini Bridges ride, very fun. The potash road from Dead Horse Point into town is another favorite.
I wonder if we would have any success setting up a MOOTS only day. I'm no organizer of such things but I'd pitch in where I could to get that off the ground. We could have a regular MOOTS-O-RAMA. Anybody think we could get 20 MOOTS bikes on a single ride? Maybe the mothership would help spread the word and bring a car load of Steamboat-ites over.
Anyone in?
Woody, if you're going in mid May, that would make two of us already, just tell me a date. We'll all meet at the Gemini Bridges trailhead at 9:00 AM. (hey, I just organized the first MOOTS-O-RAMA, that wasn't so hard)

You mentioned Potash, well I've done a couple of different loops off of potash rd. First one, we parked at Potash/Longs Canyon rode up Longs over to Dead Horse Point get some water and then ride back to 313 over to Shaffer Trail, down and over to Potash back to the car.
Second one, is TF's ride, but start at Poison Spider finish on Potash, ride up Potash to Longs to 313 to Gemini Bridges, Gold Bar, to the portal. Great tough rides.

Moab is spectacular. I almost died on Moab Rim both on the ascent and decent.
Teamfubar invites me out for his annual Moab trip and I have always declined. I am thinking this year I will go. I had better start training now if I am going to keep up with his gang.
