Does anyone need to drain water out of the BB area after washing a Vamoots?

I have an odd problem and wondering if anyone needs to drain water out of the BB area after washing a Vamoots. Over this weekend, I decided to change out the Chorus group to the 10-speed Record. Upon taking out the crank, I find that there is water pouring out of the BB area. I suspect the water came from the last wash down just a couple days ago. I first rinse the bike down with a hose (no high pressure spraying), followed by a gentle wash with soap, and a rinse down. After drying it, I make sure everything is dry on the bike. This is my usual practice.

I am going to drill a hole in the BB so I don't have to take out the BB or turn the bike upside down to drain through the seat tube. Does anyone have this problem? Any words of wisdom to share?

It is common to see this as there is no way out for the water. After a ride in the rain or washing, water can build up in the bb, as you found it cannot get out. ...the seals and threading keep the water from leaving....

When drilling a hole in the bb make sure it's at the lowest point of the shell and make sure to de-burr all edges of the hole...

Interesting. I've a compact sl, circa 2006. Seems whenever I ride in rain the bb fills up w/ water which necessitates draining and cleaning the bb bearings. how does water enter the frame? does drilling holes void frame warranty?

Usually this only happens to really slender / skinny guys who don't have enough girth to cover the seat post :>) Could that be your problem?

I think you can drill a hole yourself the way JohnC recommends. On a new frame, Moots could do it for you for an extra few $.

I wonder if Moots knows this is a common problem. If it is, why don't they just drill a hole in the BB as standard?

I think a little more elegant solution to the standard "hole in the BB shell" is installing an Action Tec Dry Valve.

It will keep gunk from entering the hole, yet let the water out. Their 2010 price list say it is a whopping $7.60.

I have this same issue on my Compact SL. I simply remove the screw that holds the bottom bracket cable guide and with a little movement of the frame, I can get most, if not all the water out. So really there is a hole in the frame, just maybe not in the ideal location.
