I'm cutting a new fork to go on my RSL and I'm sure I read somewhere that Moots suggests a max steerer length for the RSL to ensure the stiffness is kept - any ideas fellas ?

No max suggestion, cut it where you need it to fit properly for your drop from saddle to bars.

It may have come from the fork manufacturer to keep people from over extending the steerer tube lenght, from a strenght standpoint.

If you are installing one of the Alpha-Q forks, the installation instructions I have for one of their forks specifies that the total steerer stack height (stem + spacers) should not exceed 80mm above the upper headset bearing. I'm pretty sure that this is a safety issue, because the glue-in insert is 100mm long and needs to extend at least 20mm below the upper headset bearing in order for the steerer tube to be properly reinforced.
