Yeah it kind of looks like handle bar tape with electrical tape on the ends, but it's a pure guess. Great photos of a great looking ride.

What are you using for chainstay protection? I like the look of your solution. does it deaden the "ting-ting" from the Ti?

Enjoy your write ups and photos. Informative, articulate, and obviously someone who rides (and has some money). I am not a weight weenie, so I skip through some of that stuff, but nice builds and sharp looking bikes. You gotta get on some the 700c bikes......

Posted a note on tire choice with the MootoX RSL, VERY big difference in how the bike performance is veiled by heavier tires, and revealed by lighter ones.
http://windinmyface.diglloyd.com/Moots-2011MootoX_RSL-tires.html

As far as bike weight, mine should drop to about 21.5 with the lighter tires (with two tubes of Stan's each) and the carbon crown SID XX World Cup (to be confirmed shortly, installing the fork).

The sealant alone totals about 246g (123g per tire), so one has to specify all such details for weight figures to have meaning for comparison. I also verify my weights on two different scales.
http://windinmyface.diglloyd.com/gear-mtb-tires-StansNoTubes.html
http://windinmyface.diglloyd.com/Moots-2011MootoX_RSL-build.html

When I add the Moots Ti handlebar and stemp (using temporary ones now), weight might increase slightly.

Mine is including king ti cages and xtr 980 pedals. Also- it is not 21.4 lb. It is 21 pounds and 4 ounces. That is 21.25 lb.

Here’s frame weight on the Moots MootoX RSL 18":
http://windinmyface.diglloyd.com/Moots-2011MootoX_RSL-weight.html

pedal weight adds 2/3 of a pound. I know people like to weigh bikes without pedals, but that's so silly since I need pedals to ride my bike. :)
http://windinmyface.diglloyd.com/gear-mtb-pedals-ShimanoXTR.html

I'm building mine with the new 2012 RockShox SID and Easton EC90 XC 29er wheels:
http://windinmyface.diglloyd.com/Moots-2011MootoX_RSL-build.html

"complete" is *with* pedals and bottle cages, fully ready to ride?

Given that the frame saves maybe 0.6 lb or a YBB 26, a 21.4 build sounds a bit dubious, but I'll hold out hope for my build.

I am building a 2011 Moots MootoX RSL this week.

3-page initial coverage, along with hi-res image gallery of the frameset:
http://windinmyface.diglloyd.com/Moots-2011MootoX_RSL-gallery-frame.html

Will be using 26 X 38 Shimano XTR. I'm told that 28 X 40 just *barely* clears and is not advised, and I want the lower gearing anyway for rides like the Trek to the Summit of White Mountain Peak:
http://windinmyface.diglloyd.com/index_topics.html#WhiteMountainPeakChallenge

http://windinmyface.diglloyd.com
http://diglloyd.com/
