Go with a 1/4'' drill bit...a nice new-ish. Use a center punch to locate so the bit won't "walk" around on the shell.

That should do the trick.

Happy, wet, riding!

Jon,

Many thanks for this.

It makes sense the Mootour is the "weather" bike, mudguards etc and it has rained cats and dogs in the UK this summer.

Any suggestions on what type of bit to drill the drain hole with?

cheers
Kam

Kam,
No, all Moots do not come with a drain hole. And as you have found out water can get in (via seat tube) and then sits in the bb shell with no way out. You can DIY a drain hole in the blank side of the cable guide if you like. Make sure to de-bur the hole properly and that will give a way for the water to escape.

Creaking....Ti prep is the way to go on all threaded areas of the frame. Making sure the BB is properly torqued into place is a must. The drain hole will help the creak, especially if you ride in the rain or wash the bike often.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

dear all,

First of all moots don't come with drain holes in the bb shell. I have seen a few guys DIY themselves a drain hole, what is the moots view on this? what does it do to the guarantee? and is it necessary? BB does fill up with water though.

Secondly, if we don't use Ti prep or copper grease on bottom brackets, after a while we it starts to creak. My problem is that I have a Mootour which gets TI prep on the bottom bracket (shimano 105) but the creaking starts within two weeks. Is anybody having the same problem? How do they fix it?

cheers
