I'm running a 24mm Vittoria revolution on the rear on a 23mm wide rim. It measures 26 mounted, and fits just right. The 25mm Vittorio open coursa EVO on the 23mm front rim measures 27mm, and also fits perfect. (2002 compact)

The thing handles great. There are a few really nice wheelsets being marketed with a bigger rim on the front, so it's not just me being weird. The biggish tires feel wonderful.

I've had good luck running the Clement Strada LLG in 28 on my Compact. The frame is custom and the fork is the new Moots branded carbon models available now, but I have ample clearance on both.

Claimed size is 28, but I measure it at 26 on a standard 19 mm wide rim. I'm running the 60 tpi version, but I would expect the 120 version to be similar.

Dom,
Custom upcharge is $650.00 for any model (other than Divides, which we don't offer custom). The PR Challenge is a BIG tire (says 27mm but measures 30mm with a caliper) and they are even coming with a bigger (30mm) which I saw at the show. Nice stuff for sure.

The height of the tire will work in the Vamoots, however, the width is still an issue. We are working towards this as bigger tires on road bikes are the new thing.....(which I love personally)

Will update when we verify.

Dealer....I would recommend Plume Grove in Leesburg. Yes they are 3 hours away, but if you are pulling the trigger on a custom, I could not think of a better person to fit you than Tom. Give him a call and make the time to visit the studio....they are great people.

If you are dead set to shop on-line try Wrench Science.

Thanks....yep spam filter going up a notch this week. Bummer.

Jon,

Please see my previous post (they got buried under the spam).

Also would like to add to above questions, what is cost for S&S couplers?
And how much for 'full' custom fit (instead of just sloping top tube)?
Thanks,

D.

Jon,

Questions about the current Vamoots;

1. What is the upcharge for the custom geometry (sloped top tube similar to CR)?

2. Is there clearance for the Challenge 'Paris-Roubaix tubular?

3. We don't have a local authorized Moots dealer (Lynchburg, VA), can you recommend an authorized on-line dealer?
Thanks,

D.

Dom,
The Challenge PR tire will be too big. It's marked as a 27mm but when you put a caliper on it, it's more like 30mm. I wore a deep mark in my older Vamoots chainstay last summer....so, in the end your CR will not handle that tire. You can go to a Conti 28c and be okay. The 28c is tight but won't rub.....manufacturers measure their tires differently.

To be really safe a nice 25c would work nicely....

Thanks,

Jon,

What is the largest tire I can safely use on the CR? Is a tire like the Challenge 'Paris-Roubaix' tubular too big to responsibly fit? I am also taking into consideration road debris and clearance for the FD clamp.
Thanks,

AggieMike,
Standover would be a bit better, but we all know we ride bikes and don't stand around on them right? You would get a marginally stiffer frame with the smaller triangle....splitting hairs here.....slight weight savings in the frame with the shorter seat tube, which you would give back with the longer post needed.

Out of curiosity, what is the benefit to you of a sloping top tube on the Vamoots that the CR doesn't offer? I just curious b/c it was the traditional geometry that put me in favor of the Vamoots over the sloping TT of the CR.

Dom,
No plans to offer it with sloping top tube. We kept it "traditional" to seperate it more from the CR. I understand you like the geometry, but will have to go custom to get it with a sloping top tube.

Thanks,

Jon,

Any plans to offer a Vamoots with a sloping top-tube similar to the CR? I'd like to get one but unfortunately paying the custom upcharge for the sloped top tube is a deal killer.
Thanks,
