Sean,

Well from our take we like the fact that you have a wonderful, durable lifetime frame without the worry of chips, marks and "fretting" over where you lean your bike. That said, we do have many customers that choose to have their Moots painted. Some look amazing. Back in the day when we made steel frames paint was a necessity to keep it from rusting away, of course we don't need that for titanium and prefer our satin bead blast finish that can be applied over and over again.

The look of our satin finish has become very recognizable and really shows off our welds and underliying craftsmanship...paint for the most part will cover those items.

Finally, we like to operate our work place as clean and environmentally sound as possible....paint really is one of the worst materials to work around...disposing of the left overs and just having that much chemical product around is not the way we want to go.

We will prep any frame ready to paint and send it to the painter of choice for our customers.

Let me know if you have any other questions...

I've had to take to writing Moots in crayon all over my RSL to give it the kudos it deserves ;-)

Only kidding Jon, just enough Moots's on the frame, understated and so cool.

JonC, answer me this if you would please. Why do Moots never paint their frames ? Don't get me wrong, I love it like that and wouldn't change it, but there has obviously been a choice made at some point along the way, when was it and what was the thinking behind it ?

Cheers
Sean

Steve,
Your new Vamoots will come as seen on the web-site. No decal on the seat tube. For the RSL family we went to the "MOOTS" on the chainstay to differentiate them from the non-RSL bikes. The RSL family carries a decal on the front of the seat tube with "Handbuilt in the Rockies" on it...

Over the years we have leaned towards less MOOTS on the bikes as per customer feed back and tastes. No big decal changes for 2013.

Hope that clears it up....

Thanks!

Jon,

I have noticed that different bikes seem to have different decal packages and that they have changed from year to year. For example, it looks as though the name has been taken off the seat tube on the Vamoots between 2011 and 2012. And I noticed that the RSL bikes say "Moots" on the chain stay as opposed to "Hand built in the Rockies".
Can I expect that my new Vamoots will come through exactly as the current web site photo? Or could it change?
Just curious what to expect.

Thanks
