You will notice wear on the slider and can even feel it. Rub your thumb nail around it and you should feel it.
I'm a clydesdale and I put between 3000 and 4000 miles on it a year and I just put a new one on every year. It's a piece of mind for me and for 60 bucks it's not that bad.

Here's the instructions.

http://moots.com/wp-content/uploads/TECHpaper_YBBshock.pdf

Enjoy it,
Woody

I use the Lizard Skins shock cover for my MootoX YBB. It stays clean and I occasionally wipe off the old grease and relube.

The DuPont Teflon bearing grease keeps it like new -no scoring.

can get a lot more life out of the slider with a neoprene bootie around the stanchion. I don't have a picture handy but they are easy to make with neoprene and some velcro. I use zip ties around the bottom and top to prevent anything getting inside. Mine wraps around the bottom like a diaper. It barely gets anything inside even in really dusty and wet conditions. I ride my Ybb about 10k a year and 5 years is really easy between replacements. Also can rotate the stanchion after a while to get more life out of it.

Why Moots never offered a bootie is beyond me.

Mine is only three years old and I think the spring inside is starting to show. I think it'll make it another couple of rides.

Shredder,
'07! Yep, it's time. All bets are off on the creaking....very seldomly does the Ybb unit itself make a noise. BB?, Seatpost?....check those as well.

Thanks,

My bike is an 07 and on the original, so I guess it's due. LOL. I don't really ride in any mud though. I'll get one ordered up. Will a worn out make a strange creaking noise?

Shredder,
You will get 1-2 seasons of riding out of the slider, depending on milage and conditions. Those that ride where it is more wet than not, will run thorugh a slider in a season of heavy use.

How long do you have on yours?

Thanks,

When should the slider be replaced? I know they're supposed to get scored, but mine's starting to get what looks like a crimp in it. I'm guessing it's time to go?
