Did three weeks in France this summer. Self supported with hotels each night. Touring is much more fun with a bed and a bar at the end of the day.

For tires and brakes:

Front 700x28C Continental Grand Prix 4 Season Ulterga 6600 SL (Edge 2.0 Fork)
Rear 700x32C Schwalbe Marathon Supreme Paul Racer Center Pull

Bike, bags, and rider were about 280 pounds all up.

Original build had a Shamino R650 double pivot on the rear but it will not clear a 32 tire when fully open. Having to deflate the tire every time you want to put in on or take it off is a drag. The 6600 clears the Continetal 28C fine in the front, but that particular tire is a "narrow" 28.

A 28 is about as large as you want to go with an Edge fork. A 32 will pass but is really tight.

Mootour will take a 35 in the rear. A 38 looks like it would fit, but rubs a bit in practice. I would suggest the Vittoria Randonner Hyper as a more comfortable ride than the Schwalbe.

If ordering a new frame, think about the longer chainstays and getting the studs placed for the Paul center pulls.

Rack is a Tubus Airy (Ti fo course) This rack is very narrow on top so it does not fit a trunk bag with panniers on unless you use something like the Ortlieb Trunk Bag with the outboard supports.

Hope this helps. In any case, just get out there. Almost any tire and brake combo will work. For example my wife did the same tour on 700x25C Tubeless.

I'd be interested to know your set-up in regards to braking and tire size. Thanks in advance
