I've neaver rode a geared Moots road machine, but let me tell you, this is a blast to ride and train on. Nothing beats a fixie and 3000 ft of climbing for a full body workout. The change over takes only minutes with the ease of the sliders and specific chain. I won my class and finished second in the overall (all the age groups, geared). I was over 5 minutes faster on this bike than my geared squish, go figure. IMO nothing beats a King headset - any color! D - the bar ends are LP Braid Jr's, and yes they are carbon. I am a little old, and old school, and have always run bar ends, just like the optional hand positioning and leverage for climbing. I think they are still available, they are comfortable and pretty compact. Funny - I still have like three or four sets of Onza pedals in my pile of parts! N - I do like the I-9 wheelset, the hubs are solid and spin great. I got into carbon wheels a few years back via my cross bike and loved the stiffness. Really, really like the XC Enve wheels on the Gristle and of course, the King hubs speak for themselves. I'm close to pulling the trigger on a Mooto X RSL and will for sure put Enve wheels on it if it comes to pass. FWIW, I really like Schwalbe tires, I used to run WTB tires all the time but I found recently that the quality is not the same as it used to be.
