TR, I agree the bike in the pic doesn't reflect the old school setup where the bars are parallel to the ground, and the levers are set even with the drop, but IMO, no one rides setup that way anymore. At least not around here. As for the evolution of the Vamoots, well things just change. No one seems to mind that the Specalized Stumpjumper is now an all carbon fully, not a slack geometry steel cruiser it began life as.

I added the " mate " cause i saw from your profile you are out of Austrailia, and I thought adding that would add a friendly note to this thread. Generally up here in the US, if you come in blasting critical opinions right off the bat, you typically get a cold response. Or a punch in the face.

TR,
Hmmm...if you must know, I set the bikes up for the photos and have been doing so for many years. Like stated above....the Vamoots has changed over the years to reflect a more upright riding position that allows more people to ride longer and more often. A few years ago we changed the layout of the geometry on the Vamoots...longer head tubes, longer chain stays, shorter top tube, more relaxed angles, lower bb vs. the CR and RSL models to accoplish a different ride.

Sorry if you don't like the kit.....different strokes.

Well, speaking for myself, you didn't get any response from me as I don't know squat when it comes to "technical" numbers associated with road bikes. Now, ask me a question about how much travel for your Moots mountain bike and I'll answer.

Also, anytime a question is posed on the forum that can be construed as disparaging, you'll see a lot more responses as "we" come to defense of the bike company we love.

Never said I did not like the Vamoots.
Just think that the set up of the bike does it no favours as pictured.
Obviously others disagree and that is AOK.
Bars rotated back, levers rotated back, stem flipped up.

gearguywb, I somewhat agree and am currently looking at my 2nd ti road bike which will have a 10mm longer HT than my Moots Compact and will have only 0-5mm of spacers as a result.

sbsbiker, because I see it for what it used to be which was a more traditional square shaped race bike.
And yes I know about the RSL line.
I own and race a Compact (whihc is basically where the RSL line came from).
Not sure why the MATE.
And not flaming, just stating my opinion.

A shame I did not get this much response to my question about current 40mm fork options for my Compact.

I absolutely adored my "comfort bike" on last years Devil Mountain Double and I plan on it again this year. I suspect I don't look as cool as I could with only 2 cm drop, but with all that climbing and descending, it IS the most comfortable position in the world. With that subtle bias I think that photo looks great.

I think the subdued kit looks great too, but it would disappear on the road before dawn and after dark. I would also need so many pieces to cover the temperature range, but maybe for those middle of the day mountain bike excursions...

Not sure "comfort bike" is quite the right term to use....unless it is used to describe a bike with a slightly taller HT that allows for less of a "racer boy" type position to allow more comfort on those long saddle days.

Actually, one of my issues with the road line up is the relatively low HT lengths. Look at the number of builds with 2.5-4 cm of spacers under the stem. Most riders do not need a 7+ cm drop. While it may look cool, not the most comfortable position in the world :)

"So the Vamoots is now a comfort bike?
Sad news.
But at least that explains it."

Why is that sad? How does that label explain your dislike of the current jersey style?

Have you seen the RSL line? Think of it as a race Vamoots. Who cares if the Vamoots is labeled a comfort bike, if you want race bred geometry, get the top of the line, RSL, or go custom, if you are such an authority on bikes.

Care to explain your flamming posts? Mate...

I thought I was the resident grouch, but it sounds as if TR woke up on the wrong side of the barbie. Remember the 1st edition of Radioshack? The current Liquidgas? - gad....that neon green and blue cut on a angle?

I enjoy Joan River's "Fashion Police". Not so much because of the fashion, but because of the comments - she may be getting up there, but her acid tongue is awesome. Her comments on most any cycling outfit would probably be banned from general viewing. And I agree with the other posters in that the kits are pretty sharp - if you don't like them, don't get them.

And, pray tell, what on earth is wrong with the bike set up?

Wow. I guess beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. I actually love the Moots kits- all of them. I can see why you might prefer the black club riders kits best, but the past two years of the Voler and Vermarc are pretty neat. I own and wear most of it and it is all good. Each year has its own look and that is pretty cool. Like I said, I guess everyone has his/her own taste.

I am, however, going to throw the flag on the critique of the Vamoots. Sorry, but that is what a Moots is supposed to look like!! Not sure how a true Moots fan could come the conclusion that the Vamoots display is an "abomination." Not even close. At all.

Keep up the good work Moots. Display bikes look perfect!!

Um, TR, is everything OK? You seem a bit edgy...

Every person has their own tastes, so not liking a kit I can understand, although having just basic black and white is SUPER refreshing when compared to most "pro" kits out there. There are a lot that look like a clown puked, way too many colors and far too garish, but see, that's just me.

BUT, what is wrong with how that Vamoots is set up? Is it because the stem isn't level with the ground and/or the bars are "high" compared with the seat? The Vamoots is no longer the "racer" of the line up, so it is going to be set up and shown in a more relaxed look, appealing to the guy or gal that likes to go ride centuries, not at a race pace, but more of a social pace. Are you talking about the levers? Just got done reading about how Sram has redesigned their Red levers and their new upcoming hydraulic road levers to accommodate the new trend of having the levers higher up on the curve of the road bars.

Most of the Moots bikes pictured are bikes that are hanging in the "showroom" at the factory. Go upstairs anytime and you'll see these bikes. And maybe, if your nice you'll get to take one for a test ride and you'll see that they aren't set up to look like something else but set up to ride!

Who the hell is designing Moots jerseys and knicks recently?
the past 2 years i have looked at getting some new moots kit and both times I have looked I have been greeted by some of the most ugly kit I have seen in recent times.
Moots, get a new designer PLEASE!!
until then i will stick with the owners kit.
