I've heard some good things about Cannondale, but I could never get used to a lefty. The closest I came to picking up a 29er was a Trek Superfly 100, at sub 9kg its race worthy and felt good to ride.

29'ers in general though are EVERYWHERE now. It seems all my riding mates have converted, there also seems to be a correlation between 29ers and single-speeders. Personally I don't think either are for me.

Of course, if your looking for a keeper, you can couldn't go past a Moots, as for the 26" vs 29" wheels there are plenty of debates on that one. Its a personal preference really I think, and any which way I believe its the rider that makes the bike perform.

Yeah, Cannondale didn't get their nickname "Crack'n fail" for nothing...

Knight, are you really thinking about traveling all the way to the other side of the world(really) and taking a plastci cannondale. I would be wary of anything that light surviving either the trip or the event without problems. I think your best plan is to sell off the 26er and get the custom 17inch 29er. That would be a great ride for the cape epic. Plus it would last far longer than any cannondale product.

For those in USA who may have not heard of Cape Epic, its an epic 9 day race through mountains of South Africa. (No, you don't get to race lions chasing behind you). I would say quite comparable to Trans Rockies of Canada.

I intend taking my Moots YBB (17") with 2X9 gear setup and custom wheelset built with Stan's ZTR crest front & arch rear rims. I have not been worrying too much with latest developments in xc frames ever since I started riding my moots ybb but one frame stands out to me as a worth alternative. The latest Cannondale Scalpel with 80mm rear travel. Super-light and responsive soft tail carbon frame. Would someone have an answer?

Then again, I had always wanted to try a 29er and my mind tells me that mooto-x ybb would be the perfect xc machine and maybe better suited for the race I will be participating next year.

Sell my 26" moots ybb and

get a custom mooto-x ybb (17"),

or go with a cannondale scalpel

or just keep what I have. Mind boggling....

Maybe I should just spend more time on my 2 wheels until my lotto numbers do the wonders for me.
