I have received the Vamoots CR build I concidered when I began this thread. Even with the heavy wheels and saddle the bike weights 17.01lbs. This bike is an amazing piece of art. Welding and craftsmanship is impeccable. The build is great!! I have to give a shout out to Jesse at Adrenaline Bikes in Orange County, CA. Great Moots dealer!
I had my first outing yesterday of 50miles. I agree with everything joec500 stated in his post. The CR doesn't feel like a racing rocket, but it rides like a dream. I never had a riding experience like this before but it felt familiar, like it was made for me. And I didn't order a custom frame. I ordered this stock frame blindly, I never ridden a Moots or a Ti bike before and I am NOT regretting it!!

I just built a Vamoots CR 56cm with internal Ultegra Di2, Dura Ace Cranks and brakes, Zipp 303 clinchers, King BB and HS and Zipp Service Course Cockpit.

Weigh 17.25 lbs.

I sold my 15lb S-Works Venge for this bike, and I have ZERO regrets. I have also owned the last 2 generation of Cervelo R3's and currently still own a BMC TeamMachine.

Do the Carbon wonder machines feel faster? Yes, there is no doubt about that. But the feel of Vamoots is something that can't be quantified. I LOVE this bike for so many reasons, it's like that old pair of warn in jeans that you can wear anywhere and that everyone notices.

My Moots...Passion Ride, when I am going on group rides or long solo rides, this is the bike I would take (3/4 of my rides). To me cycling is more than just performance, but a passion thing that I can't put into words.

Racing or any super fast group ride...I take my TeamMachine, but when I want to have passionate cycling experience, it's my Moots.

Thanks for the feedback. I will keep the tubes as is. I think i will be very happen with my decisions. Whatever extra weight I have on the bike, I can lose on my waistline... I can't wait to get my new steed!!

That will be a very nice bike/build. I would guess at 15 - 15.5lbs - there are lighter wheels/saddles. I've heard lots of things about Moots, but never about one being sluggish. All things being equal, a Moots will never be as stiff as a comparable carbon frame. BUT, that's what makes a Moots - they have a feel - but it's hardly sluggish. They have a lively ride and damping quality that is unlike any other frame material.

The BB30 defiantely adds stiffness. I don't know if Moots offers a 44cm headtube on the CR as an option - but that would make it stiffer. In additional, you could go custom tubes - that would make it stiffer. (That seems to me to defeat the whole purpose of the Moots ride). And at the up-costs, it'll be the same cost as the RSL, which is stiffer than the CR.

Read the new Bicycling magazine. They built and tested 5 or 6 ti bikes. Matt Phillips (of Bicycling) had Kent Eriksen build him a frame and Matt wanted oversized tubes. Kent said 'what you told me and what you want, are two different things. You want my lively frame, but with big tubes...." So Matt signed off, got the big tubes and had a very nice stiff bike. Too stiff!!

Moots has been doing this a long time, I'd stick with what they know.

maybe u get a 55 with the tubesets built for 56..should not be sluggish in any way. ask @ moots if they help using biggersize tubesets(custom then i asume anyway)

enjoy the ride

I am looking at purchasing a CR and wanted to get your opinion about the responsiveness, stiffness, and weight(I know its not going to be the lightest bike because of my choice of wheels and saddle). I am considering a size 55cm with Moots post and stem, BB30 upgrade, New Sram Red Group, Zipp Carbon Contour Handlebars, Chris King Headset, King bottle cages, Brooks Swallow Ti Railed saddle, Sram S60 wheel set, and Look Chro Blade pedals.
I want it to be very stiff and have some snap but heard that Moots can be sluggish. I was hoping the the BB30 upgrade would help. I was riding a Trek Madone 6.9 SSL which has a BB90. I want to feel like each stroke is going into forward propulsion!!! I plan to have the rig setup aggressively, but obviously I want a little comfort, hence the Brooks saddle. I initially I wanted to ride my old Fizik Kurve saddle, but I can't have oval/carbon rails with the Moots seat post. I plan to do a couple road races and a few Grand Fondos. I ride pretty aggressively whether alone or group rides.
With my ridiculous, long winded post, I want to ask if you think I am making good decision with this possible build.
