I am currently putting together a 2011 18" Mooto X YBB with a 2012 Fox F29 RLC fork and King headset. The lockout knob does hit the downtube as mentioned above, so I am off to buy a 5mm King 'Tall Baseplate'.

Just thought I would mention this in case others run into the same situation.

I have a early 2010 22" MXYBB and I needed to add the 5mm race. I'm running a 2010 Fox RLC and if I turn the handlebars all the way to the right the top of the fork would hit the down tube. I was not comfortable running it like that because I'm not ever going to turn the bars that far in a "controlled" turn just in an "uncontrolled" turn.

Just what gearguy said, "The added clearance is there for peace of mind."

The +5 crown race is available right from King for $12. http://chrisking.com/parts/baseplates

I'd install the fork and see if it clears first. If it does, don't worry about it. Obviously, if it doesn't, get a +5 race. The reason this happened is because the downtube on 29'ers was a bit steeper angle than a 26" frame, causing contact from some forks, esp. those with "stanchion top" adjusters (like the Rock Shox U-Turn). Also, the 29'er frames at the smaller size of the spectrum had a bigger issue with this because of shorter front end length, causing an even steeper downtube. A lot of both frame and fork manufacturers have addressed this and if it is all new equipment, it might not be an issue.

IMHO I think the worry about the fork hitting the downtube is blown out of proportion. Could it happen on some forks, yes. Only cause an issue if: 1. The fork actually does make contact (some clear), and 2. You would be in a situation where the bars were cranked violently to one side far enough to cause the issue, and hard enough to dent the top tube.

The added clearance is there for peace of mind.

I read at least one MTBR.com review in which the poster stated that he needed a +5 crown race to prevent the front fork rebound adjuster from swinging and dinging his frame. I plan on running a Fox fork and King headset- do I need to worry about this "+5mm crown race?" My LBS (not a Moots dealer) has never heard of this part BTW. Thanks.
