Well, I LOVE riding my Mooto X RSL. All-around favorite MTB (I have the YBB27 and the YBB29 also).

Gents,
There is no more YBB SL....it was a great bike in the heyday of 26'' wheels. However with the new technology we are using in the RSL family of bikes we see no need or want to go lighter. Remember, too light of a bike rides like poo.....we are about: ride quality, durability and then weight. We don't and won't sacrifice the first two in that list for the last.

So, no...there is no MX RSL "SL"....it's already in there...

Thanks,

diglloyd,

The SL is no longer offered (or so it appears) and there was never an SL option on any of Moots' 29'ers.

The SL was the "race" bike for light, fast dudes, shaving some weight off of the YBB by building it with thinner tubing, thus the weight limit mentioned above. I don't know when the SL was dropped from the line up, but the RSL definitely supplants that model. Way more "technology" in the RSL than was in the YBB SL, making for a more race-worthy ride.

Jon,

So how much lighter is the SL... for MootoX RSL vs a MootoX RSL SL?

Confused, no "SL" listed on the Moots site.

No the Ybb SL's are not built with the 6/4 tubing. They get built with a thinner walled tube set throughout to knock down the weight.

Canonite,
The SL is listed as a 165# rider weight limit. That being said a slightly heavier rider can ride it, but will notice a bit more flex in the frame, which does not happen under the lighter rider....

How tall are you?

Thanks,

I am wondering if Canonite has actually made the transaction. Moots is a very popular brand in Korea and an average rider would well understand the value. This would be hilarious if the seller omitted a zero in the price.

They actually call for a 165lb. weight limit on the SL. That being said, Jon recently mentioned that the bike will hold up under heavier weights, but the ride quality will be diminished as the tubing is thinner and the bike will be more flexible. Even if you buy it and sell the frame later to get a regular YBB, I'd snatch it up. As long as the components are in good shape, they're probably worth the $450 asking price alone.

Run, don't walk and grab that thing. It needs to be woned and ridden by someone who will appreciate it. Your weight will be fine once you get down toward your "in shape" weight. Not like it explodes or anything when you sit on it at 190!

Like everything Moots, very well built and certainly dtrong enough. The SL is a race bike so treat it as such. don't go hucking off cliffs and you will be fine.

Thank you :) Will I be OK to ride it (weight-wise)? I will mostly ride it on-road until I find some trails around here, then planning on taking it back home (Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada) where there are tons of good trails.

Also, is there any way to tell whether it's a real Moots? I have no doubt it is, there are very few soft-tail titanium bikes out here haha...

I think what happened is another English teacher (most of the foreigners here are teachers) must have brought it over then sold it to this guy who has no idea what it is...

Canonite, if it is in fact a Moots... 'any' Moots let alone a YBB SL that he's selling, run, don't walk and grab it now. The frame alone is worth a LOT more than $450 USD.

Hi guys, I'm brand new to the Moots world but have been riding for about 15 years and have drooled over Moots bikes in the past.

I recently moved to South Korea and found a Moots YBB-SL with Magura MM85XC forks, TruVativ cranks, Avid Ultimate hydro disc brakes (and carbon fiber levers), XTR front derailleur, SRAM X.0 rear derailleur, Sun rims, Selle Italia seat, etc for the equivalent of $450 US. I'm pretty sure this is a screaming deal...how much are they worth? How old is this model?

And finally, am I too heavy for it? I'm about 190lbs right now, but carrying a bit of excess winter padding...when I'm in shape I'm around 175, maybe 180. I read somewhere that Moots suggests this bike was built for riders under 170, so I'm pretty close, but a bit over. Should I go for this bike?

Thanks,
T
