Aluminum w/ Carbon stays &amp; fork. It was only 3 months old. I have some generous friends who want to help me get a Moots (they tell me at least I won't be able to break that), and I'm breaking down to the pressure... wavering between the Vamoots CR and Vamoots RSL. Most components will come from my destroyed bicycle, though, as most are salvageable.</p> <p>So- what do you recommend? I'm 5'3", 125 lbs, and my destroyed bike was 48/49cm, pretty compact geometry. The events I'm registered for are generally 100+ miles with a LOT of climbing (10K+ ft. vertical, 20K+ vertical for the Alta Alpina 8 pass). This is only my second season of serious riding. My first season was on a 23 year old Vitus 979 that was too big for me and finally kicked the bucket. My greatest strength: Handling on fast, winding downhills. I used Shimano's Dura-Ace pedals on the Compact, so I figured I'll go with their new XTR Race pedals on the PX. I haven't tried any yet, but they come in 26, 28 and 32, and have nice supple sidewalls. </p> <p>I've heard good things about the White Industries hubs. I'm waiting for a set right now built up 24/28 with Velocity a23 rims and DT spokes. I'll put a set of Vittoria EVO-CX 25's on them and be able to report in about two weeks. </p> <p>I'm NOT being patient. Especially since I've been riding my rain bike lately with heavy and lifeless Pasela 32mm's . Have you tried any other MTB pedals? I wish I could help you with a tire recommendation but I honestly don't have much 'large' clincher tire experience, maybe a pair of Jack Browns? I'm lucky in that most of the parts (Record 11) from my road bike (Compact) will transfer over to the new PX.
