My poor bicycle was destroyed last week in a hit & run. Aluminum w/ Carbon stays & fork. It was only 3 months old. I have some generous friends who want to help me get a Moots (they tell me at least I won't be able to break that), and I'm breaking down to the pressure... wavering between the Vamoots CR and Vamoots RSL. Most components will come from my destroyed bicycle, though, as most are salvageable.

So- what do you recommend? I'm 5'3", 125 lbs, and my destroyed bike was 48/49cm, pretty compact geometry. The events I'm registered for are generally 100+ miles with a LOT of climbing (10K+ ft. vertical, 20K+ vertical for the Alta Alpina 8 pass). This is only my second season of serious riding. My first season was on a 23 year old Vitus 979 that was too big for me and finally kicked the bucket. My greatest strength: Handling on fast, winding downhills. You can see a couple examples of my downhill riding here:
(on the 48/49 cm Stelvio XRP- Lookout Mountain)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOxFHNYTKhk

and here (on the 54cm Vitus 979- Loveland Pass)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoy4jIYJalM

The gear ratio I've been using has been a SRAM Rival modified compact, 52/36T on the front and SRAM 1070 11-32t 10sp on the rear.

I've never used XTR pedals before. I used Shimano's Dura-Ace pedals on the Compact, so I figured I'll go with their new XTR Race pedals on the PX. No other reason for going with XTR.

+1 for Time pedals!!! Can't muck them up, can't wear them out. Just a new set of cleats about every third year.

A guy I ride with frequently loves "Grand Bois" tires (that syntax works a little funny). I haven't tried any yet, but they come in 26, 28 and 32, and have nice supple sidewalls.

I've heard good things about the White Industries hubs. I'm waiting for a set right now built up 24/28 with Velocity a23 rims and DT spokes. I'll put a set of Vittoria EVO-CX 25's on them and be able to report in about two weeks.

I'm NOT being patient. Especially since I've been riding my rain bike lately with heavy and lifeless Pasela 32mm's . They make it feel like a tandem, but without the conversation.

Dom,

I see you're going with XTR pedals. Have you tried any other MTB pedals? I'm just asking as I think even though XTR's are a lot better in the mud than they used to be, but I've been using Time pedals for quite a while and they are a no brainer in mud/sand/snow/etc.

Nice hubs, White makes some really nice stuff, gonna match with the Paul gear nicely. I wish I could help you with a tire recommendation but I honestly don't have much 'large' clincher tire experience, maybe a pair of Jack Browns? If you were going to build a set of tubulars I'd say go with either FMB or Dugast.

D., I have a Selle Anatomica saddle that is being re-skinned in white. It's a comfy saddle with longish rails.

I recently built up a set of Mavic cxp33 rims to White Industries hubs. Not the lightest, but robust enough for my fat ass :-)
Not too sure on tires yet, probably 32's. Any recommendations D.?

Sounds awesome AJ. I almost went with Paul brakes too (great stuff), but decided on the TRP carbons. I'm also running a leather saddle (Brooks Team Pro Ti), which one you using?

What wheel/tire combo you going with?

D., sounds like an awesome build thus far. Even though a Moots will be entering the collection, I'm still old school. I'm installing Kelly Take-offs with shimano shifters; Sram brake levers, nitto noodle bar, Paul Canti's.

The gallery has been great for ideas; one that I'll be implementing, and that my buddies despise....leather saddle and tape, white. It will probably stay clean for about two seconds; still looks cool.-AJ

I went with an Enve cross. I'm lucky in that most of the parts (Record 11) from my road bike (Compact) will transfer over to the new PX. I got pedals (new XTR) and brakes (TRP Euro-X Carbons) and a pair each of FMB and Dugast tubulars.

Can't wait to finally hit the trails around here, it's gonna be awesome!

D.

PS. post pics on the gallery when she's built, would love to check her out.

D, I happened on a NOS Alpha Q CX. Realizing the company has veered from fork fabrication, the price was worth the lack of warranty. What are you going with?

I have a few parts on the shelves, but still need derailleurs; thinking about going xtr or xt. -AJ

AJ,

You made my day. A new Psychlo X to add to seven steel bikes that is a nice mix.

What are you planning on using the PX for? Dirt road? Cross? Commute? Road? All of the above?

congrats and thanks for the support of Moots. We really do appreciate the business.

Finally pulled the trigger on my first Moots; Psychlo X should be here in about 6 weeks. My seven other bikes are steel, the PX will be my first Ti, with a carbon fork being another first. Should be fun!

I've learned quite a bit here on the forum, and look forward to picking all of your brains.
