Jon and Gearweb pretty much hit it. I think "womens specific" frames are a marketing device to sell more "off the peg" frames to women. If it is a road bike select the compact frame TT you need, and go from there.

Mtbs you just need to work on fit. I see the biggest fit problem in the really short women 5 foot nothin and shorter. It is hard to get a 700c road bike under them.

I think an over stated assumption is that women tend to have longer legs and shorter torsos than a man if similar size. True dat most of the time, but men vary a lot too.

My best friend is one inch taller than me and has a 5 inch longer inseam than I do. We fit way different on bikes. He can ride mine by raising the saddle and flipping the stem skyward. Thus shortening the reach, increasing the actual Head tube measurement, and not changing his seat to bars drop. I really have a hard time on his bikes I can barely get the seat low enough, and the front end is a mess, but we both work around a 57 or 58 TT.

His wife is 5 " 7 and has the same inseam as me. I don't even change her seat height, but slap on a 13 cm stem to replace her 10cm and off I go on her bike. She stole my Moots compact from my moms house for a race a couple years ago and when I am at their house she lets me borrow my bike back and even changes the stem out before I get to town . That is a good wife, but not too trusted of a friend though stealing a guys Moots, now come on.
So anyways my advice is always fit, fit, fit in buying bikes and worry about names later. Then if you have problems custom.

rokatje,
We don't tag a frame as "women specific" in our line. The smaller sizes do take in many points a women's frame does. Standover, top tube, head tube. Outside of that,we can also tweak into a custom build to suit the rider if needed.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

No and maybe. My wife is riding a vamoots and a SL YBB and loves both. Neither one is custom. It is a matter of correct fitting.

Is there a frame that is more specific to a woman amongst the MOOTS offerings ???

Or, does my wife need a "custom" build ???
