Hey Exie,

I was over on Problem Solvers/QBP's website and found this item. Looks like it could be the solution to your problem...a "problem solver" if you will. (Sorry, that was really bad.)

Hi Fubar,

I was looking at the Funky Monkey Front, however after going down and visualizing it on the bike, I'm not so sure its a good idea.

Yes, it would give me a straight cable pull to the dual-pull dérailleur, but it would mean the cable is a few centimeters away from the seat tube. This is potentially trouble as it could get caught or snagged on things (like my leg, baggy shorts etc).

So I'm with you on the dérailleur design, not-so-good. Been 3x10 I probably should have got the FD-M980 instead of the FD-M981. Too many models to choose from!

Exie,

A couple things....

1. Having had some issues making a Racing Ralph work with my "non-Moots" 29'er, because that HUGE mechanism that sticks out behind the derailleur to accommodate the dual pull rubs the tire, I've decided I really REALLY despise the trend towards dual-pull front derailleurs. I realize it makes a shop's job easier and it is more cost effective for the manufacturer but I'd be MORE THAN HAPPY to pay a few extra dollars for a specific pull front derailleur.

2. Are you looking at the Funky Monkey Rear? (Your link takes us to the Funky Monkey Front) If you can run the cable to exit and be a "straighter" shot to the front derailleur there isn't really a reason this wouldn't work, but you'll still have a fairly long shot of derailleur cable to contend with. If it doesn't work, I'm sure you could make most of your $$ back selling it off on eBay or similar place.

Hey Folks,

Odd topic, but I've got a minor grievance with my Cinco. Well, its not really with the bike but... let me explain.

The cable routing for the front dérailleur tucks under the top tube, then goes around the seat tube and sits in a cable-stop welded to the frame on the back of the seat tube. The cable inner the comes out of the cable stop, down to the dérailleur.

I changed back to XTR a few months back, and got an FD-M981 - 34.9mm Dual Pull unit. It mounted up fine around the seat tube, but the cable routing now comes out of the cable stop on a horrible angle sweeping down to the dérailleur.

Sure, it works, but its pretty ugly.

So today I stumbled across this thing called a "Paul Funky Monkey" as seen here:
http://www.paulcomp.com/fmfront.html

My question is, has anyone used one ? is it worth trying one to tidy up the cable routing ?

Any other ideas ?
