Shift the rear into the highest gear prior to wheel removal. When mounting back straighten the der and align the smallest sprocket with chain. Do not forget to unfasten the brakes. Should go in like knife through butter.

Pulley cage distance was the first thing I checked, had to look for the adjustment screw, it wasn't where I was expecting it to be. I also checked chain for length, both are within specs. I think I'm just cursed. :-(

Mine doesn't just drop right in, but my problem is that I run the biggest tires that will fit, and they bind in the brakes. I usually have to pull the cage backwards to get things to settle, I wonder if your rear swing adjustment is set a little too close.

I have a Compact with full Campy record drive train (50/34-12/27). All professionally installed and I love it but... whenever I mount the rear wheel (and this is with every wheel I've used on this bike), I have 'the most' difficult time getting the wheel back into those damn dropouts. It always binds on the drive train and won't budge. I then have to carefully wiggle it loose and try again, sometimes it binds again and other times it slides right into place. I've checked everything and tried different scenarios (small cog, big cog, small ring, big ring, unwrap chain from front ring...) and it's always hit or miss. I've never had a problem with something so simple as mounting a rear wheel on any other bike, yet with the Compact I am baffled. This is causing immense irreparable damage to my self esteem, and yes I do feel like an idiot.

Anybody else ever run into the same problem? Help!!
