I have an extra pair of never ridden Vittoria Pave's (27mm) that I don't need. I'm using the same tubulars on my Compact and it's a fits good. Let me know if you want them.

Sat,

I have two pairs of Nemesis wheels, and they are so bombproof that you may be tempted to ride them on dirt, gravel, etc. or on the Psychlo-X. I would consider a tire that has more flat protection, like the Vittoria Pave or the FMB Paris-Roubaix, in a width that will fit a road bike (24mm and 25mm, respectively). Save the CX's (if you have them already) for a lighter build imo.

I have my eye open for a decent price on AMBROSIO NEMESIS. I have the hubs already I just need to find the rims. For tires I am going to use the Vittoria Open Corsa CX.

Well Domestique, if I did get those with the green tread, I wouldn't have to worry about my buddies ribbing me for long as I'm usually off the back fairly quickly...

GGW, I like the Paves but then I like a 'big' tire (comfy). By way of example, I typically run a 25 Corsa from Spring thru Fall. I was going to play it safe and get the 24 Paves but I spotted a pair of the old style 290tpi 27 at the LBS so I decided to give them a try. Amazingly they fit rather nicely on the Compact. There's not much room back there but there is enough that I don't worry about it. If you decide to try them, get the older 290tpi and save yourself a few bucks over the new 320tpi (I can't tell the difference between them). Just expect to get some ribbing from your buddies for the green tread.

My first tubulars - Dugast - while nice didn't last very long. I'm now riding Veloflex and they seem to last longer. I don't race - I just use them for "normal" club rides. I can't imagine going back to clinchers. I use Tufo tape vs. cement and so far no issues.

tf,

I started riding tubulars a couple of years ago, and it was in large part to try out some carbon wheels. Right now I have the 25mm 320tpi Vittoria Open Corsa CX's on Hyperon Ultras on the RSL, which is a pretty plush combo.

Tubular love seems to be coming back around. To me it's similar to the Di2 analogy of ...don't try them if you don't intend to dive into the deep end.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the ride of a Moots road bike is amazing etc, etc...On clinchers. If you add in a set of nice wheels with good quality tubulars....you'll never go back.

At one time (back in the day) tubulars were kept to the race set crowd. These days with sealant and improvements in tubs, they can be ridden as training set ups as well. Our own Corey P trains on them daily with little or no hassles.

The feel you get from the road is amazing.

In Cyclocross (don't get me started) it's the ONLY way to go. Low pressure, Spiderman-like hook-up on cambers a clincher could only dream about.

If you happen to damage a tubular, beyond the help of sealant.....fear not! This guy can fix them for little $$.... http://www.tirealert.com I just had a set of Dugast come back with new base tape installed on both for $20!

Love live tubulars road and 'cross!

Dropping about a pound of rotational weight off of a 1650 gram Zipp clincher wheel set and running lower tire pressures were my motivations for trying out Edge tubular hoops last year. I also went the whole season without a flat, knock on wood, and I usually have 2-4 per season with clinchers. Not exactly a scientific study but obviously pinch flats are no longer an issue with a tubular. Aesthetically, I think the Edge's look better too without the aluminum brake track.

Is it me, or does there seem to be a resurgence of tubulars? Can anyone say why this is happening or why it seems as such? Is it because of the proliferation of carbon wheels?

I am a newbie to road tubulars but have two sets. Vittoria Corsa's and the Continental Competitions.

Dom, I have heard good things about the Pave, what is your take?

Vittoria Pave (yes... the dorky ones with the green tread) currently on the Compact, and I like using Vittoria's Corsa for when the roads clear up after Winter. I also tried FMB last Summer, they were nice.
