Shoe Goo works well for gluing on the cable guide. And I guess technically it's a bolt, not a screw. I like your final solution though: "Get Di2"

I have heard of this as well, but the screw can only be as long as the BB shell/cable guide are thick. If the end of the screw sticks up through the BB shell, then the water has to be "deeper" in the BB then the tip of the screw for that to work.

Gluing it in place is a good option. Use something that can be removed but is waterproof (maybe some aquarium sealant?). Of course, if you went Di2, then you wouldn't need the plastic cable guide on the BB and you could just leave it open! There...problem solved. Get Di2! 8^)

Another thing you can do is glue the plastic cable guide in place and leave out the screw. Voila .. drain hole.

I have also heard of people drilling a small hole through the center of the screw .. really.

Your comment is similar to my inquiry about a week ago. My BB gets filled up with water after regular washing. Some suggested drilling a hole at the lowest point in the BB. Others have suggested turning the bike around to drain the water. Moots does offer the option of drilling a vent hole at the bottom of the BB at the factory. Another reader suggested a special valve that lets water out but keeps out the dirt.

Just seen the post about the bb shell filling up with water.

Living in the UK where it rains all the F8&^$ng time, I have toyed with this idea for a while. But I don't want to inflict anything on my beautiful Moots frames.

Does doing this void the guarantee? and is it really needed? I realise that it is the bearings that would be most at risk, but to be honest, I use mainly Shimano 105 bb outboard units, these only have a realistic life span of about 5 years if you are lucky before the drive side bearings start to loosen and wobble, that to me is reasonable life span and that is without regular stripping and rebuilding of the bb.

Also one of my frames has a new Chris King bottom bracket unit which can be regreased without being removed which would protect the bearings independently anyway.

Would love to hear all your thoughts on the subject.
