Good advice MarkM,

I'm not a wheel builder, so by not that knowledgeable in the more technical aspects.

One day I'd like to build a super light MTB wheelset, perhaps a 28 spoke setup ? quite possibly with some ENVE carbon hoops (if I win lotto!). The only problem I've ever had with strength was bending the side wall of my DT Ex430 hoops (with the King hubs), those hoops were always a bum choice as they weren't natively UST either!

Otherwise I've had very little trouble with any of my wheels.

The Sapim spokes are probably excellent, but probably wasted on me. :)

Exie, the blade of the Sapim CX-Ray spoke gives the wheel builder the ability to hold the spoke and keep it from twisting when he is trying to increase the tension above 100 kgf. Therefore, you can build a stronger, yet lighter wheel with the CX-Rays than you can with a spoke like a revolution.

I've got a wheelset with DT240's ... bulletproof! Had mine for 3-4 years now and they've been perfect. I'm actually tempted to swap back to them over my Chris Kings (on crappy DT hoops)!

I also have a wheelset built up recently with Saipm CX-Ray spokes and I'm a but underwhelmed actually.

They were a bit pricey, and I havent noticed any difference over my DT rims (one with super-comps, other with revolution). In part it could be because they are still 32spoke wheels with fairly heavy hubs. All 3 wheelsets are around 1500-1600 grams.

Building up carbon hoops with some DT 190's will be super light if nothing else!

I don't have any expierence with the 190's but do have a couple of sets of the 240's. IMHO, the 240's are some of the best hubs out there for the money.

Thx leer, my old buddy Chris (who turned me on to Moots a few years back) runs DT240 hubs and swears by them. I've always been a campy guy but... I am intrigued with the DT190.

D.

I have been running the DT Swiss 190 hubs with Stans 29" Arch wheels on both my Gristle and my MotoXRSL and I love them! They have been working flawlessly, easy to service and roll like "butter" and not to mention light as can be. I would recommend them to anybody!

Scored a set of Edge 1.38 tubular rims and I'm thinking about having them built up with a set of DT Swiss 190 ceramic hubs instead of the usual Campy Records (which I have on my other road wheels). Anybody running these, opinions?
(a set of Ligeros or I9 hubs would be nice too...) :-)

Also, normally I have my wheels laced with either DT or Wheelsmith spokes (depending on what's on hand...) and I've been considering trying something different this time like maybe Sapim CX-Ray aeros. Whaddaya think?
Thanks,

D.
