Jerome,
You bet. We have been doing a disc option on the Psychlo X & Psychlo X RSL for some time. Spacing in the rear is taken to 135mm with through guides for the brake housing. Hydraulic is not far off and you would be ready with this type of routing. You would want to build it around a disc tapered for (3T or Enve)....

This would make a great machine for those uses listed above.

Thanks,

Are they option to consider for a new CX bike (RSL) build to be ridden hard in the Alps ?

I want it light, efficient, forgiving with strong road capabilities (like the current PX RSL)

use: 80% sport 20% races endurance and CX

thank you for your advice (Jon welcome ;-) )

Dom, did you notice on the tandem you linked that the "spots" are really dinosaurs, and the right brake lever controls both a Chainstay mounted u-brake, and cantilevers on the seatstays. Really cool details I missed on first notice. Still no bids the eBay auction. If I didn't have one already I would buy this one in a second. Looks awesome and the seller says hardly any miles. $2000 is a steal for this.

Nice find Dom! I asked Moots a few years back if they'd ever build a tandem (again) and they said no. Bummer...I guess the closest we'd be able to get now is an Eriksen tandem, which is a damn sweet tandem. Saw one in action last year at the Dakota Five-O and the team RAILED the singletrack sections.

Nothing wrong with a bit of variety in your cycling.

What will you do if you ride a MotoX and decide you crave the high performance of the Vamoots more ?

The PX is a nice bike for sure, but I'm not sure its really all that "relaxed", depending on what jmacjgm has in mind.

Maybe time to n+1 and have the Vamoots and MotoX side by side ? :)

After only 200 miles on a 62 cm Vamoots RSL, I have discovered I crave the rougher roads and probably a bit more relaxed geometry. Anyone here with a Mooto X RSL or YBB they might want to trade? I may even be open to other types of trades too...

White Industries just released a rear disc hub with 130mm spacing so anybody with an old Psychlo X that has Moots throw some disc tabs on can run disc hubs. Looks like the market is moving toward 135mm for disc equipped 'Cross bikes but good to know the guys at White have me covered.

I was thinking of maybe going with Vittoria Pave's, I used their tubular version (27mm) and it's a good tire (even if it has those gay looking green striped treads...).

Mavic does make a good rim, I remember running a set of GP4 years ago on a Bianchi and beat the hell outta them and they stayed true (guess that says a lot about the wheel builder too).

Those white hubs are nice... check out PMP hubs, those are sweet too. If I didn't already have a set of Record hubs still in their boxes lying around I'd give them a try, and the new Chris King R45 hubs look tempting too. I'm glad to see they finally made a Campy compatible hub.

Lots of choices...

I'm commuting on a pair of Mavic Open Pros laced to White Industries hubs. I've found that Kenda Small Block 8's wear like iron and are solid unless things get really nasty. I think it's the best balance of limited rolling resistence and bite tire-wise. I figure if the Reflex version is good enough for Jon C. at Nats, the clinchers are good enough for my commute.

Want to get a set of clincher wheels built for my PX which I'm now using for commuting. I've been using my tubulars but need something more practical in case (when...) I get a flat.

For the tire, I'm looking for something with a tread that's good on asphalt and light trail riding, basically a 'go anywhere' (almost) tread without being an outright cross tread, would also be nice if it has a robust casing to resist cuts.

For the rims, I'd like to use a spare set of Campy record hubs (36 hole) I have in my parts box to build the wheels so rims also gotta have 36 holes. Wheels have to be robust to take some abuse, I'm thinking 36/3X/14 front & back. I've been eyeballing DT Swiss TK540 rims but they are on the heavy side.
Thx,

You're speaking of the ones on the down tube (where old school road shifters would go)? They work the same way and those are the ones I was referring to. I've got 'em on the down tube of a few of my bikes. Dial them out (counter clockwise) for more tension on the cable.

Teamfubar thats great, its not that I have a problem with adjusting the mech from the cable adjuster on the mech, I know exactly how that works, its rather that bizarrely my Moots is the first bike I have ever had with inline adjusters and when I had problems shifting on the ride the other day realised that it would be VERY handy if I knew which way to turn the bloody thing !!

Thanks so much.

Not an idiot. I'll assume we're talking adjustment for the rear derailleur. If you're having an issue downshifting (going to a bigger cog in the back), turn the barrel adjuster out, or counter-clockwise. This increases the tension on the cable if it has stretched or loosened a bit since it's initial adjustment. Go small increments, 1/2 turn or so at a time and check the shifting in between. Should be good to go.

EDIT: This all assumes that your derailleur was adjusted properly to begin with and is just shifting poorly now due to some cable stretch/seating. If that is not the case, then barrel adjusters are NOT the way to fix the shifting. They are just to fine tune it.

Simple really, which way do you turn them ? Do the work the same as the ones on the end of the mech ? ie to help the chain up turn the adjuster anticlockwise and vice versa or are the reversed ? My brain just can't work it out ;-)

Yes, we can build the Vamoots with more slope. It does get into full custom at the point....changing one tube as important as the top tube changes the rest. Custom charge runs $ 650.00 additional.

One of the the things I'm most looking forward to is heading south into Mexico for weekend trips, that's gonna be great.

Jon,

Can Moots build a VaMoots (55cm) with a sloped top tube similar to the RSL (10 degree slope instead of parallel)?
I need the extra stand-over clearance.

And what is the upcharge for the custom geometry? Also, would the upcharge be the same whether I do a 'full' custom frame instead of only modifying the top tube?
Thanks,

Took the MX RSL out for the first time yesterday after a long wait for an '12 Fox Float with the 15mm thru axle. I guess the best way to describe the ride is that it's perfectly balanced with the quickness of a great race bike. Things felt extremely smooth and I was really enjoying my first stint on the 2X10. We'll see how things wear but the application on-trail is quite eye opening with such range with the cassette. Bottom line is that I'm extremely pleased. Thanks to the Moots crew.

I picked mine up last thursday. Already put in about 50 miles. This bike is AMAZING!!! Dropping friends that USED to be faster than me on just about every climb and downhill (even on full squish bikes). Very stiff where it needs to be but with compliance to ease the fatigue on longer rides. Soooo efficient!

Build by Garrison's Cyclery in Centreville, DE. Rob Garrison is a bike genius! Never seen so much care and attention to detail from a bike shop.

Hi I'll be using the 39/28 cranks and 11-32. This I think willgivethe best range basedonthe fact the I Cana
Ways put a lower cassette on if I head to real mountains.

I must admit I don't do really wet muddy conditions - if it's that bad I'm happier suffering on the road ;-)

Oh andim in the very south of the Netherlands on the border with Belgium and the Ardennes.

I decided to go with a fork with a tapered headtube even though it'll bump the front end up 8mm. My priority was stiffness and getting away from 9mm and think the 8mm will be fine. The build is going to be:

Fox F29 Float FIT RLC at 80mm, 15mm thru axle.
Edge (now Enve Composites) bar
Moots Open Trail stem (90mm) and Moots19mm setback post
Chris King inset headset with lower cup (hence the 8mm)
Selle Italia SLR XC saddle (in white for half price...think it'll look sharp)
No tubes crests laced to blue Industry Nine hubs
Maxxis Ikon 2.2's tubeless
Full SRAM XX (went with the 42/29 crank and 11-36 cassette, 156Q factor, 175mm cranks, brakes with matchmaker)
Crank Bros Eggbeater Ti pedals

This is my full XC race rig but I do plan on racing some enduros with an 8 hr on the calendar, a pair of 50 milers, and possibly a 100 miler in the distance.

Got everything I need. Just waiting on Fox for the fork. Will let you know how it looks when I have it built!
