You also have to factor in how wide of rim you are using if you are using clinchers. I figured that out with cross tires, that they get wider in a wider rim. Sewups not so much.

MTBdad,
I have had good luck with the 28c Conti...usually the gator skin version.....big, comfy, floaty....

I also ran the Challenge 27mm Roubaix tire that measured to a 30mm width with a caliper.....no room at the chainstay ....I stuck to the conti....

MTBDad,
We really build for a 25c...however some 28's (depending on maker and how they measure will fit)...sorry I don't have a solid yes/no for you but it really depends on how the maker calls their "28".....

A good way to go is ask a few riding buds if they have a 28 you can slip in and note the clearance and maker....or stop by a good shop and see if they will let you do the same.

Hope that gives you some direction.

Thanks,

wondering if my 2011 CR will accomodate a 28mm tire? There appears to be sufficient room, but I'd hate to buy a set of tires to only discover they are a smidge too wide. Thanx in advance!!
