Yes, I would test out that set up before committing to it. We haven't tried all combos of all makes of cranks/ring set ups.

Let us know how it goes.

so given that the 2X outer ring position is a bit further out that the middle of a 3X, but not as far out as a 3X outer, a 36 may clear. I really need to find these cranks in town and do a test fit.

On my rigormootis I am running a 35 on ss stylo cranks and could clear up to about 38t. On my RSL I might be able to clear 35 max on my slx crankset in middle ring position.

currently running m960 cranks. 34t ring is close to the chainstay, but just clears. I want to go 36t in the front for more chain wrap.

I'm looking @ m785 XT 2x cranks and wondering if I'll have the clearance w/ a 36t ring. Any thoughts?

Other option is to use the outer holes on a 3x, but the m785s are pretty sexy.

Mine is standard and plenty stiff, and I'm 85kg and have thighs like 2 foot long watermelons. Stiff as any bike I've ever read, sounds like you might wind up with overkill and a dead frame if you're not careful.

Roo so far you have added ~90 grams to the weight of the frame for the increase in diameter of the downtube and the headtube assembly. When we designed the frame we felt very confident in the ride of the bike, especially the balance of stiffness, comfort and weight. Each size uses a specific tubeset based on average rider weights and lengths of tubes. We use the experience we've gained doing ti for over 20 years.

Where do these suggestions come from?

Ok, I've pulled the trigger on a new Vamoots RSL and went custom for a tapered fork and larger DT (approx size 52). The question:

Should I consider increasing (next "size" up) Seat stays, Chain stays, or Top Tube? My goal here is to make the frame stiff but not kill the overall compliance of the frame. Plus, I'd rather not add weight - just to add it...

I've got differing suggestions...any thoughts?

Thanks,

Russell & Mike,
We can't wait for NAHBS 2011 and would love to organize a Moots road ride. I believe Rapha will be doing a ride Saturday morning. I would like to plan a ride for Sunday. I will be digging into this just after the first of the year.

Any thoughts? Interests? Routes?

I'll nail something down and get the word out.

Riding in Austin sounds really good about now...12F and windy...

Sometimes I am prone to take for granted my Moots MXX. But I spent an amazing day on the bike yesterday in the mountains of Western Maine and was remided in many ways what makes a Moots. I did everything over the course of 6 hours of riding; long sustained climbs, ripping fast downhill sections on logging roads and lots of classic New England rooty, rocky but flowing single track. The MXX and Moots in general nail it all! So I just wanted to offer a thanks to everyone at the company for the ride.
