I have received the Vamoots CR build I concidered when I began this thread. Even with the heavy wheels and saddle the bike weights 17.01lbs. This bike is an amazing piece of art. Welding and craftsmanship is impeccable. The build is great!! I have to give a shout out to Jesse at Adrenaline Bikes in Orange County, CA. Great Moots dealer!
I had my first outing yesterday of 50miles. I agree with everything joec500 stated in his post. The CR doesn't feel like a racing rocket, but it rides like a dream. I never had a riding experience like this before but it felt familiar, like it was made for me. And I didn't order a custom frame. I ordered this stock frame blindly, I never ridden a Moots or a Ti bike before and I am NOT regretting it!!

I just built a Vamoots CR 56cm with internal Ultegra Di2, Dura Ace Cranks and brakes, Zipp 303 clinchers, King BB and HS and Zipp Service Course Cockpit.

Weigh 17.25 lbs.

I sold my 15lb S-Works Venge for this bike, and I have ZERO regrets. I have also owned the last 2 generation of Cervelo R3's and currently still own a BMC TeamMachine.

Do the Carbon wonder machines feel faster? Yes, there is no doubt about that. But the feel of Vamoots is something that can't be quantified. I LOVE this bike for so many reasons, it's like that old pair of warn in jeans that you can wear anywhere and that everyone notices.

My Moots...Passion Ride, when I am going on group rides or long solo rides, this is the bike I would take (3/4 of my rides). To me cycling is more than just performance, but a passion thing that I can't put into words.

Racing or any super fast group ride...I take my TeamMachine, but when I want to have passionate cycling experience, it's my Moots.

That will be a very nice bike/build. I would guess at 15 - 15.5lbs - there are lighter wheels/saddles. I've heard lots of things about Moots, but never about one being sluggish. All things being equal, a Moots will never be as stiff as a comparable carbon frame. BUT, that's what makes a Moots - they have a feel - but it's hardly sluggish. They have a lively ride and damping quality that is unlike any other frame material.

The BB30 defiantely adds stiffness. I don't know if Moots offers a 44cm headtube on the CR as an option - but that would make it stiffer. In additional, you could go custom tubes - that would make it stiffer. (That seems to me to defeat the whole purpose of the Moots ride). And at the up-costs, it'll be the same cost as the RSL, which is stiffer than the CR.

Read the new Bicycling magazine. They built and tested 5 or 6 ti bikes. Matt Phillips (of Bicycling) had Kent Eriksen build him a frame and Matt wanted oversized tubes. Kent said 'what you told me and what you want, are two different things. You want my lively frame, but with big tubes...." So Matt signed off, got the big tubes and had a very nice stiff bike. Too stiff!!

Moots has been doing this a long time, I'd stick with what they know.

I am looking at purchasing a CR and wanted to get your opinion about the responsiveness, stiffness, and weight(I know its not going to be the lightest bike because of my choice of wheels and saddle). I am considering a size 55cm with Moots post and stem, BB30 upgrade, New Sram Red Group, Zipp Carbon Contour Handlebars, Chris King Headset, King bottle cages, Brooks Swallow Ti Railed saddle, Sram S60 wheel set, and Look Chro Blade pedals.
I want it to be very stiff and have some snap but heard that Moots can be sluggish. I was hoping the the BB30 upgrade would help. I was riding a Trek Madone 6.9 SSL which has a BB90. I want to feel like each stroke is going into forward propulsion!!! I plan to have the rig setup aggressively, but obviously I want a little comfort, hence the Brooks saddle. I initially I wanted to ride my old Fizik Kurve saddle, but I can't have oval/carbon rails with the Moots seat post. I plan to do a couple road races and a few Grand Fondos. I ride pretty aggressively whether alone or group rides.
With my ridiculous, long winded post, I want to ask if you think I am making good decision with this possible build.

Sean,
Sorry for the delay in response...we are fighting the spam battle behind the lines here at Moots and feel we might have a handle on it at this point. Just don't try to sell me any UGG boots....

Anyway, that serial number tells me the frame is an 18'' built in September of 2003. 80mm fork would be the call, however a 100mm would feel pretty sweet.

Decals can be purshased through the Moots store and Tami will have them sent postal to you....not sure of the cost there....

Thanks,

Thanks so much

Hope all are well in Steamboat Springs !! Wish I was there. Although just back from 3 days on Nice on the Vamoots RSL ! Was brilliant.

I'll go for the 2012, size 19"
I think you've had a contact yesterday with Jerome from France about it.

I'm already thrilled about it.
I'm the kind of hard tail guy who likes racing a bit from time to time and want the best of both worlds (reactivity and comfort)

XD,
There are some big differences in the 2009 vs. the 2012. Most notably is the 44mm head tube. This feature on the 2012 really makes the front end of the bike much stiffer....this also allows the use of a tapered fork as well.

We also re-vamped the geometry to a bit longer top tube, which allows the use of a shorter stem....this gives a better feel to the handling. One more thing is with the 44mm head tube the stack is less and will allow the front end to be lower which is always a good thing on the 29er's.

That's my .2 cents.

Thanks,

I'd like to give the X YBB a try.
Unfortunately, it's not the kind of bike you find at every corner streets, at least in Belgium.

So, I could buy a second hand frame (2009) for about 60% of the price of a 2012.
If I had to buy a 2012 model, I'd go for a 19".
2009 model TT is 2cm (0.75") shorter, is it still a good choice?

Good thing about the 2009 is that I could use all parts of my current Salsa El Mariachi Ti, even the Lefty fork on it.
Leftys are short (475mm) and I think it Will better suit the geometry of the 2009 model.

I need some advice, should I spend the extra bucks and go for a 2012 model or won't I even feel the difference?
I suppose that a lefty on a 2012 model is not a good option?

Thank you.

Hi Jon...wondering if you might help me out re: size of the new kit. I'm a tweener according to the Voler size charts....5'9", 145 pounds...I have the medium vermarc kit and my riders jerseys are medium...thinking that's the way to go, but wondering if you think small might be a better way? thanks
And yes...I am from New Jersey!

See, you have to get up pretty late to fool me. But don't think for one minute you can slide some hot new jerseys by your faithful viewers. They look really good.

Mootzilla,
No, your eyes were not tricking you and we love the Garden State. We have a new Voler Race Kit as we call it. It's in stock, photos have been taken, should be in the Moots store by this weekend. Short sleeve, long sleeve, wind jackets, vests, bibs and a new T that compliments the kit.

I'll post the moment it goes into the store.

Thanks,

It is not just a state. Is that a new Jersey the folks at the Stinger race were wearing? And when if ever will it be available? I like the old skool look and the green. Did I say I like the green? Regular or Premium?
