Jerome,
Our road forks have passed multiple bicycle industry standard tests. During the development and prototype stage each model underwent destructive testing to ensure safety of the rider. Also, once they went into production the forks on the production line where sampled and tested to again, insure safety of the rider.

A 200 pound rider will be fine to use them.

Thanks,

This is my YBB set up as a fixie road trainer when the single track is too muddy to ride/train on.

I've neaver rode a geared Moots road machine, but let me tell you, this is a blast to ride and train on. Nothing beats a fixie and 3000 ft of climbing for a full body workout.

The change over takes only minutes with the ease of the sliders and specific chain.

I can't wait to set it up for the SS cross racing class in the fall.

This is my custom with the same geo and tubes as the RSL. I won my class and finished second in the overall (all the age groups, geared). I was over 5 minutes faster on this bike than my geared squish, go figure.

Oh, and I finished 1st in the bug catching class

Jerome, I'm based in the UK and come to Ventoux almost every year. I am visiting again in July, staying in Seguret, where is your shop based ? I have a Vamoots RSL and would love to pop in and say hi and talk Moots !

He's right Jon, we need something a little Euro focussed, I'd happily handle something here in the UK if there was the interest. I'm thinking something along the lines of the Rapha Continental, some like minded Moots'eys and nice long, interesting rides, friendship and maybe some good beers ;-)

Yes I guess I did to get my jersey but the sad part of the story is that you can enter only one frame number ;-) ...
John I am now helping Klaus from Rabbit in Germany to sell some bikes here so far this year since september 2011 when I started having a little time for this 14 frames placed.
But to go further and have a true business establish here I really think that we need to develop the image of Moots. People who are buying those bikes want more than a piece of equipment as nice it could be.
Each time it tools me a while to place a frame a lot of talk and customers became friends after that. Later you need to be consistent if not they rightly feel betrayed. I have no problem with that as bicycles are my life line. I have a personal story with them beyond pure sport experience.
It is something customers are asking for, they want to be recognized for theirs choices, If not you will keep going back and forth and selling frame one at a time with no consistency. France is a small market, a niche in a niche.
Passoni has one dealer, Seven now has one dealer to who is handling 90% of the sale. Both are doing a good consistent business. We can do better. Moots make better bikes and we can out-behave them on many aspect.

More as a mechanical engineer I like looking at how things are made and why, as you I could talk about bikes and theirs usages for ever, all bikes all riders style.
I would like to develop a Club in France and in Europe (I have connection beyond France) to keep everybody together. America is too far away for many and only few are speaking english well enough.
I would also want to translate your catalog in French and in Spanish (another language i speak with a bit of Mandarin Mt Ventoux might appeal to Chinese one day).

Thank you for your interest in my project.
I would like to do something in line with you, and I will only do if you are ok with this. I am fully open to share everything with you and to think of it with you. I have no intend to make something for myself be sure.
Later I plan to open a little boutique shop as a Moots only boutique shop. In fall I am moving to the bottom of Mt Ventoux a great place for riders.

Best

Mootzilla, as a fork recommendation I'm running the Niner carbon fork in my 2011 RSL and it's excellent.

As a comment in frame size - I'm 6'2" and run an 18" frame with a 120mm stem - which I feel fits me fantastically, so I'm really interested in the comments on longer top tubes etc. I used to have 19" YBB and felt it was too big.

I'm currently thinking about a second RSL to run as a single speed - and was thinking of looking for another 18" 2011 frame as it really seems to do the job for me. ( I also like the astheic of the 2011 more than the 2012 ;-))

May be its the fact that I'm a bit of a die hard roadie and this set up suits my road style as well - or that I have ejust not tired the longer TT properly - question is how do it try a 19" frame..?

Any comments please?

PS: and I'm still running standard axles on wheels - must be really old school ;-))

mootini - On my 18-inch Mooto X YBB frame, I am running a 100mm, -6... red. Because red = fast!

Jerome - I'm not sure that I understand your question.
With the Fox F29 forks...
- The 100mm version can be shortened to 80mm
- The 120mm version can be shortened to 100mm

On my Lynskey, I am running a 120mm that is reduced to 100mm and on my Moots Mooto X YBB I am running a 100mm that was previously shortened to 80mm for my 2011 Mooto X YBB (I opened the fork, pulled the 20mm spacer and changed the fluid). Both have the 15QR (I couldn't agree more with Jon's 15QR comment), but I feel that the 120mm version is a little stiffer probably due to the increased overlap of the upper and lower legs.

I think that the only way that you will know for sure if Fox set the fork to 100mm is to search for the measurement from the crown race to the fork dropouts... then measure your fork. I can't see why they wouldn't have done what they said that they would do.

heloo everybody,

I am Jerome living in Provence and I am moving in a few months in my family bedrock at the bottom of Mont Ventoux.
I would size this moment to launch an idea I have for a while. Setting up a Moots riders "confrerie" or a Club like groupment we could have weekends and internet connections etc... to start a kind of informal club that will quickly evolve as a Club as soon a few personalities will have find interest to joint and develop the organization.

What is your feeling about it ?

If you want to be a retro grouch, that's fine to each his own. But please lay off the Greenpeace environmental spin that running a Di2 set up with a battery is somehow the end of the environment versus a mechanical shifting system because in reality it is the mechanical system which will put far more refuse into the environment than an electronic battery. The Shimano Di2 battery is speced for a MINIMUM 500 charges, and a typical charge will last between 1200 and 1600 miles. I dont know too many typical cyclists putting in that amount of miles on a weekly or even a biweekly basis. That distance is more than half a Typical Tour De France. Most riders will get close to two months if not more from each charge. Now do the math, two months by 500. Works out to about 90 years, and even if you charge it every month you are still looking at 40 plus years between battery replacements. In addition, the electronic cables themselves essentially NEVER have to be replaced. With a mechanical shifting system youll typically be replacing your metal cables, the ferules and the nice PLASTIC housings and their associated lubricants at least once per season if not many more times per season. A cross racer or bike commuter in the northeast or northwest will be replzcing cables and housings far more than once per season every season. Thats a whole boatload of plastic, lubricants and metals being discarded. Add in the additional environmental costs to manufacture all those constantly replaced mechanical housings and cables and electronic Di2 looks pretty darn environmentally friendly by comparison IMO. I'll gladly trade the harm of replacing a small battery every 40 or 50 years with the deluge of plastic housings and associated crap that mechanical users go through monthly any day. There, that's my own GreenPeace take on it.

By the way, Di2 iMO doesnt not just shift a little bit better than the best mechanical systems, it shifts WAY WAY better. Every shift is spot on once its adjusted, Every Shift. And the front derailleur trim blows away any mechanical system out there, it does, and unlike mechanical systems that have to constantly be fudged with, particularly ones that deal with muddy cross, or rough commuting conditions, Di2 is like a Chris King headset. Its set it and forget it. Get it set up right and you never have to fudge with it again, unless you trash your rear derailleur or der hangar in a crash, etc.

SRAM Red because cycling is simple and must stay like that.

Di2 is not part of innovation.

And what about the enviro could this planet support another few billions of small battery, after the cell phone mania ? Certainly not.

Please resist that trend when it is not absolutely necessary (no need to give away your cell phone won't work with cable). I am sure if Steve Jobs would have been in cycling he would have kept riding cables actuated devices.

@mimdesign @Jon
Hi,
Could you go back a second to the comment on the 2011 Fox 29er fork.
Are they really shorter ? I do ride 2 one on my 2012 MX RSL the other on my 2012 MXYBB.
I was told that originally they had 80 mm of travel so I send them back to Fox to have the ring removed and the Fork travel extended.
Did they fudge me ? and most important in that case I am riding bikes out of theirs specifications.
thank you

Best
