BIKE: Moots Vecchio Patata “THE OLD PATATO”
Full Custom Vamoots + Campy
RIDER: PETER CHISHOLM
This is Peter Chisholm’s (The Old Potato) retirement present from Moots. Our long standing association with Vecchios Bicicletteria, in Boulder, Colorado is flourishing and we wanted to recognize Peter’s retirement from retail in a special way. We felt paying homage to Campagnolo and Peter, and his love of classic frames through a one-off frame design was the best send off. Peter supplied the beautiful 80th Anniversary Campagnolo groupo to hang on our version of a “modern retro” bike using titanium and some classic styling for his custom ride.
At Moots all of us are bike nerds in one way or another. Some of us have nerdiness rooted in mountain, some cross and some road. For many it’s all of the above. Let’s just say that this one started with the road nerds. Butch served as pilot of the project but those involved deserve the credit for doing the work because like all things Moots, each frame, each product, each idea reflects what the group sees, not just an individual. We feel this is our strength.
Eric’s retro perspective stems from road riding the Iowa countryside on a steel Rossin. All of the expert machine work and engraving are his handiwork. The notion of a Merckx like image of Peter on the seat tube, that’s his idea as are the through guides on the top tube.
Nate took the tasks of swaging, shaping and mitering the tubes for construction. Different designs require different techniques to make a straight frame. He also designed and built, with Ned’s help, the display stands. Once again, as with his role in the trail bike, he nailed it.
Ned put his artistry to work with the welding. Welding this frame was a new challenge and he rose to it with his usual can do attitude and awesome skill.
Jon worked with our partner in graphic design wizardry, Cultivator, to create the decals for this baby. From concept to final product they gave us the look and feel of what we were trying to accomplish.
Butch did some polishing and running around but as with last year’s trail maintenance bike both with the ideas and execution we did this as a team and the result reflects a group effort. We hope you like it.

BIKE: “Suitcase of Courage”
PSYCHLO X S & S COUPLERS & 450MM CHAINSTAYS
RIDER: MATT ALFORD-MOOTS INTERNATIONAL SALES DIRECTOR
The very bike you are looking at was built just for our International Sales Director Matthew Alford. As his title indicates he handles all of our international accounts which puts him logging some frequent flier miles around the globe. Matt was getting a little tired of seeing the world from the window of a jet and back seat of a taxi, so he built himself the perfect travel companion. Now when he’s on the move his PX S & S bike gets packed and he’s as mobile as they come.
This “suitcase of courage” Moots was designed to handle anything and everything thrown its way from fast shop rides in Charlotte to rickshaw-dodging in Jakarta. The 450mm chainstays allow a fat 40c tire for exploring WAY off the beaten path, or a quick switch to high-pressure 25c tires to hang with the RSLs on group rides. S&S couplers fit the whole shebang on board without extra luggage fees, and Moots custom mounts allow easy reassembly in ports of call far from home.
